Is anyone doing research on Tullochs from Sanday? I believe I may have found my ggg grandparents and wonder where to go now as there are no records of birth on either John Tulloch or Janet Tulloch. I do have a son mentioned from records.....Thomas Tulloch born in Sanday, Cross & Burns Feb 1792. There are many children listed with parents of the same name. Can anyone shed light as to where I could check to verify these are indeed my ancestors. Any help much appreciated!

Hi Hilty,
I have recently learnt that amongst my ancestors on Orkney I also have a Jannet TULLOCH who I hope to learn more about. Possibly a connection somewhere along the way.
My Jannet TULLOCH married a William CRAIGIE and they had a daughter Barbara Bapt 15 March 1752 on Sanday.
Interested to hear if you have found more on your Janet TULLOCH.
regards, Tiffaney

Hi folks, you might be interested to know that there is a booklet available called Sanday Kirkyards recorded by T Garrioch which has all the cemetery inscriptions for the 3 cemeteries in Sanday. ( Cross Kirkyard, Burness Kirkyard and Lady Kirkyard)I believe it is printed on the island but they might be available from OIFHS. It,ll save you a trip out there, which is what I did in September ( got wet feet and didnt see what i was looking for)

Hi akc,
Thank you for your kind offer but unfortunately only know my Jannet Tulloch & William Craigie came from Sanday at this stage. Hope to be back on Orkney in 18mths so will pay Sanday a visit. Same thing happened with my friend & myself in Perth, (wet feet) when exploring Cargill Cemetery & then there was no sign of my Milne family plus ended up scrambling through bushes & broken branches amongst which were more MI's. Fun isn't it!!!
regards, Tiffaney

Hi, there are 3 cemeteries on Sanday as I mentioned above. It,s a beautiful island, the beaches are great and the seals are huge at the north end near the Burness cemetery.

Hi akc, Noticed after I'd posted mine you had said which cemeteries there are on the Island. Must have been modifying my post when you posted your last one. Sanday sounds wonderful...love beaches, sea, seals etc.
Noticed you also have DREAVER & PEACE amongst your family interests. Mine lived on Stronsay.. .regards, Tiff

Hi again, my Drever,s and Peace,s are from Sanday and Westray. I found a lot of info on the Cursiter website, but we also have Tulloch,s living in our houses at some time on the censuses, so I will go back over my previous searches to see if any of them ring a bell!. There are a lot of Tullochs in all 3 cemeteries, but you need to know where they lived.

Hi Hilty, found your John and Janet on Scotlands People and cursiter.com. It appears they had 9 children: Elizabeth 1790, Janet 1781, John 1798, Mary 1789, Sibilla 1799, Thomas 1784, Thomas 1792, William 1796 and William 1801. There are 2 Thomas,s and 2 William,s but sometimes if a child died they would give a new baby the same name! do you know any place names? cant find a marriage for John and Janet but did find a John Tulloch married to a Janet Turfus 1780-1800( no precise date)

Thanks akc for your useful info. Wrote to a man researching his TULLOCH family, yesterday, unfortunately there was no connection with ours.
I won't run away so take as long as you like. Have most of my info. on GR or my forum at Ancestral Search. Will get back to you also if I find more which may narrow them down.

Thank you Laurina, Tiffaney and AKC for all your help. I have been searching everywhere trying to tie in John and Janet Tulloch as the parents of my ancestor, Thomas Tulloch and cannot find the connection anywhere.
The parents of Thomas Tulloch born abt 1793 in Forres, Morayshire are John Tulloch/Margaret Hutcheson. This I know to be fact as they are listed on Thomas' death certificate. I had a lead that Johns' parents might be John and Janet Tulloch....however, after hours of searching thru Cursitor.com (great website Laurina..thanks) and other websites, I found many many John Tullochs married to Margaret Tulloch....several Margaret Hutcheson's but no way to tie any of them to my Thomas Tulloch.
John was a farm labourer. as was Thomas who settled in the Bonor Sutherland area. The search goes on......
