Where are my Hendersons?

Hi y'all

The better weather has kept me from my tree for weeks now - must get my head back into it.

I am researching Hendersons originally from Scotland (whereabouts I dont know) and I am looking for anyone with connections.

Also can anyone spot them prior to 1881 (the last census I have found them in)

There is

William Henderson born c1835
Margaret Henderson nee ? born c1839

and their children

William 1857
Jane 1864
Margaret 1867
Mary 1869
John 1875

John married a Emma Jane Miller b.1876.

I have them from 1881 onwards census wise. In all of these records they are in Carlisle

This entry comes from the 1841 census of Scotland

William Henderson 1806 Mason
Jean Henderson 1811
William 1832
Mary 1836
Edward 1838
Margaret 1838

Rose Street, Annan
All born in Dumfrieshire

Could be a connection due to father's occupation.

That's what's strange. Alloa is in Clackmannanshire further north than Dumfriesshire where Annon is. But 1841 census states William being born in County. Undecided

Not sure. Have to look closer tomorrow at 1871 census.

These are entries from the Scottish 1851 census. Same family as 1841. It could be your William. The age is right.

It does look more and more likely doesnt it?

I'm afraid I don't have access to the 1861 scottish census. I only found the 1851 entries by doing a google search.

When looking at the place of birth for the children Jane in 1871 was 11 and was born in Carlisle, which sort of implies that they may have already moved to England. However, I've been searching the 1861 english census with no joy as of yet. I'll keep looking though.

I did wonder that but then when I couldnt find them in england on the 61 I did wonder if they were over the border.

In the 1881 census the family are in Botchergate, Cumberland still.

Margaret 14 Cotton Winder
Mary 12
John 6

No sign of Isabel, and Jane is stated as being born in Scotland so this answers why they can't be found in the England 1861 census, they hadn't moved over the border.
