Look up for Luke Parfery please.
« on: Saturday 17 May 08 19:56 BST (UK) »

Could someone please help as I`m trying to find a birth for Luke Parfery (this family surname is also spelt Parfrey ) born about 1892 Undecided

I`ve found him on the 1901 Census aged 9 living with his parents George and Mary A (nee Tabor ) plus three brothers Walter aged 4, William aged 3 and Frederick aged 10 months living in Wisbech St Peter.

To complicate matters further it appears that George and Mary A didn`t marry until December quarter 1903.

I know through research that this is George`s second marriage as I have a copy of his first marriage certificate and have recently sent for a copy of his second marriage.

Any help, advice or imformation would be most welcome Grin Grin

Many thanks steve

He's married / with an Elizabeth in 1891 - do you want the census transcribed ?

I cant inspect original pages at the moment, but was Luke born in Spalding ?

There's Luke Fuller Tabor on FreeBMD in the Sept 1893 quarter in Spalding. As his birthplace appears to be Spalding in 1901 this is probably him

Saw him - just wanted to be sure the 1901 was actually Spalding, and age actually 9, which might discount this chap ..... cant view at the moment ....  Roll Eyes

altho Tabor is the maiden name of the lass who is married to George in 1903 !

There wasnt a process per se ..... you filled in the Census form, and said what you liked basically !

Luke was Marys son - was she Tabor maiden ? so maybe illegitimate, and doubtless it 'helped' to call him Parfrey in the famil and neighbourhood ....

Yes Tabor was her maiden name ( I assume Luke`s father may have been Mr Fuller Undecided Undecided ).

No doubt the marriage certificate when it arrives will give us a clue. It will show where they married which also baffles me because this was George`s second marriage and I can`t find any divorce records either locally or at The National Archives Undecided Undecided Undecided

Many thanks again for your keen interest. Grin

Divorce rare and costly at that time - I think not many years earlier it needed an Act of Parliament !

So no death Index entry found for Elizabeth - what about the 2 daurs in 1891 ?

George and Elizabeth were living with their two daughters in 1891.

Elizabeth went on to marry Isaac Waters but reverted to her maiden name, the youngest daughter appears to have gone with her, the oldest daughter ( my Grandmother ) went into service we think although can find no trace of her on the 1901 Census
