Hello Cass
1. A free search in Scotland on the official pay per view govt website www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk - between 1860 and 1880 - shows no George Gellie being born in all of Scotland. 2. In the same time frame there is a George Gelly born in 1875 - but not in Aberdeenshire
There is only one Gellie Family in Peterhead in the 1871 census . Born George Gellie - Head - 38 - painter Old Deer Mary Gellie wife - 36 Belhelvie George Gellie 13 - shoemakers apprentice Old Deer John Gellie 11 - scholar Aberdeen David Gellie 09 - scholar Slains James Gellie 07 Slains Catherine Gellie 06 Peterhead Mary Gellie 04 Peterhead
? Gellie 02 a son Peterhead Eliza ? Gellie 03 months Peterhead Mary Moir 76 - Aunt Fettercairn
I've saved a copy of the original - if these are your people, if you send me your e-mail address by pm - I'll forward it to you.
If you have an interest in a specific part of Scotland - Google for the local Registrars office and see what facilities they have . An example of Aberdeen/shires:
http://www.aberdeencity.gov.uk/acci/web/files/rm_registrars/rm_registrars_family_history_leaflet.pdf
Good luck. Regards, Steve :O)
(FYI, http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ (you’ll find people calling it SP) This is the official govt website lots of interesting stuff can be found - mainly from your grand and gt grandparents backwards.. Basically a per per view site - buying 30 units at £6 a go - but a lot of free searching can be done. £6 will get you 5 bmd's or census extracts -= copies of the originals. Do not order certs - they're only needed for legal reasons and have no extra info).
