SHH!! Be very, very quiet, I'm hunting forebears
|
Hi, I'm having a hard time with this one .... so, I'm 'sharing' my grief/ frustration
I'm seeking the parents/ siblings of John (William) WEBB bapt. 27th May 1798. The family tree indicates he was born in Little Tew, but by all accounts there is a matching reference on IGI with his baptism in Aston Rowant.
His parents were: Mother: Elizabeth ?? (IGI suggests surname possibly HERRIDGE) Father: Wm. WEBB
Would like to confirm these records, but am researching from Australia and have little to no clue on obtaining required information from late 1700's.
With regards,Sue.

Thanks Debbie ... Didn't expect such a fast reply! Quite chuffed to see that the John I was looking at does in fact tie in with the marriage of Elizabeth and William.
I will look into those transcripts as well. In fact, heading off to the OFHS site now!
Thanks again, Sue.

Hi Sue,
I see that you have your family has been accurately identified by other respondents. But just one more piece of information. The church in Little Tew was not completed until the 1850's.
In terms of access to records, I am sure you can get the same records as I do living in England. Probably all counties have family history societies, e.g. Oxfordshire Family History Society, and these publish transcripts of parish registers in their county, they also offer research/look-up services at modest cost.
The other major source is the Mormon Church. It runs Family History Centres which will obtain for you to view films of parish registers and other genealogy publications from all over the world, including registers of many English parishes. At www.familysearch.org you can find the addresses of centres in Australia [about 150] and you can search through the library catalogue to see if they hold the records you are looking for.
Best wishes,
Colin
