Hi Merideth, Have you checked the IGI? James and Margaret's marriage is listed there. James's father is shown as Robert HARVIE and Margaret's father as Malcolm MCDONALD. Cheers Prue

You'll need to get his death certificate to determine how he died.
Since he died in 1842, have you found him on the 1841 census??
IF not, check with Scotlands People (the official office for Scottish records). You'll need to pay to check the BMD (check under the "old parish records - pre 1855)and census records but they are online.
http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/
Good luck.

Hi Merideth
In case you haven't got it, this looks like James and family in 1841 FreeCen:
HARVIE James M 49 Mason Argyllshire HARVIE Margret F 36 Argyllshire HARVIE Peter M 12 Argyllshire HARVIE Margret F 10 Argyllshire HARVIE Robert M 7 Argyllshire HARVIE Agnes F 4 Argyllshire HARVIE Isabella F 2 Argyllshire
Address: Wellington Place, Dunoon & Kilmun-Argyllshire
Just out of interest, you have a precise date of death for James I wondered where you saw this recorded. Because the death took place before official registration in 1855, you will not find a death cert for James on SP. There are very few records of deaths pre-1855 (have a look at today's posting by Boongie Pam on this link www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,24468.0.html)
Regards.
Monica
