Moore's from Abbeyleix
« on: Wednesday 26 November 08 19:12 UTC (UK) »

Hi reader,
Thank you for taking the time to read my email.

I'm trying to find information in relation to my great grandmother, Elizabeth Moore.  On her marriage certificate, in 1886 it stated her father's residence as Abbeyleix, Co. Laois. Elizabeth was a Protestant, I  unsure of her exact date of birth possibly in 1863

I know that she had a sister called Mary, a National School Teacher who moved to Killenaule, Co. Tipperary and married a Mr Smith.

Elizabeth could have had more siblings but I'm not aware of them.

After converting to Catholicism, she married my great grandfather Edmund Hall [b1859-1927 a farmer from Co. Tipperary] in 1886, in Lismore, Co. Waterford. They lived in Killenaule, Co. Tipperary were they had 11 children.

All I know about Elizabeth as that she was a shirtmaker by trade and in 1901 became a certified midwife and that her father was Robert Moore, a shop keeper who lived in Abbeyleix, Co. Laois. Type of business unknown.

I would be grateful for any information on Elizabeth, her sibling and extended family on her mother or father's side.
Many thanks
Sinead

The place on the marriage certificate is the bride's residence, not her father's. The townland might not be where she was born or where her family was living.

She moved from Abbeyleix to Killenaule to live with her sister where she met and married my great grand father Edmund Hall.

Family members had told me that Elizabeth came from Abbeyleix and that her father had a shop there.
