I would love some digital photographs of the Shaftesbury area - in particular the mills at Cann and Melbury Abbas - and also the church at Melbury Abbas. I have found some online but they are all copyright & I really want to use the photos in my "family book" without copyright concerns . Acknowledgement of course.
My family were also living in Salisbury Street, from 1842 onwards.
In return I'm happy to try and trace anything you need in Australia - preferably the Eastern States as my knowledge of all things to the west is very minimal.

Hi, I wondered if you had had any luck with the photos? If the weather's not too thundery, I have to go to Shaftesbury via Cann and will have a quick look as it's a lovely part of the world and it's no trouble. Fred.

Thank you so much both for answering
Mobo - would love a photo of "Golden Hill" - I will pm my email address
Fred - that would be wonderful - I have recently contacted someone on the net (not through RC) who sent me photos of the churches at Cann & Melbury Abbas but I would LOVE photos of the mills or simply the general area - so I shall hope it's not too thundery. Many many thanks.
Trish

Sorry Trish - I should have said "Gold Hill" - a very well known and much photographed Dorset landmark. Anyway I'll e-mail you a photo. But just in case you have a problem opening it, I'm posting it here as well.

Hi Mobo
many thanks for the pic - I have seen photos of this area on the net - lovely to have one! I shall now go and check whether or not I gave you the correct email - I think I probably got it wrong! Sorry

Hi all, I think they used Gold Hill in the famous Hovis advert with the little boy ("It were just arter t'war...") where it represented the industrial North! I've got a feeling it was also used in "Far from the madding crowd" with Alan Bates and Julie Christie- I seem to remember Troy's troopers there but I might be wrong on that one. I took some pics last night but they're not quite of the same standard as Mobo's. I'll have a play with them this evening though- oh the wonders of technology Fred.

I saw one of the famous Dorset "Bridge plates" near Melbury Abbas telling us all how to get to Australia on the cheap! I'll take a pic and post it on here for anyone who hasn't seen one. Fred.
