Thinking that 34 or so is a bit late for a first marriage, I found this one in 1881 for you

William MOTT   Head   M   Male   29   Salford, Lancashire, England   Mechanic (Iron)
Sarah MOTT   Wife   M   Female   22   Liverpool, Lancashire, England   Pedlar
Charles Wm. MOTT   Son   U   Male   6   Manchester, Lancashire, England
~~~~~~~~
Source Information:
 Dwelling   31 Collier St
 Census Place Salford, Lancashire, England
 Family History Library Film   1341945
 Public Records Office Reference   RG11
 Piece / Folio   3959 / 76
 Page Number   32
And conveniently for a second marriage, Sarah (or her name & age sake)
die in 1882.
Deaths Mar 1882
~~~~~~~~

Mott  Sarah  82  Chelmsford  4a 190
Mott  Sarah Ann  25  Salford  8d 102

~~~~~~~~
Can't find a marriage online (as yet) for William & Mary Roberts.
I stumbled on the enquiry but it has raised questions. My grandfather, William Mott (1874 - 1935) was born in Manchester to James Mott. James lived from ~1837 to 1877 but on his death certificate the wirness in his brother William. As Mott is not a common name in Manchester I suspect that this William is the same as yours. (I realsise there is a 13 year age difference). I have more details of the Mott family if you require them.
Dear David,
Thank you for your interesting reply.
As you say Mott is not a popular name for Manchester area, when I checked the 1881 Census, there were only 73 for the whole of Lancashire and the majority were living in Salford.
I do not have much more information to tell you except that Williams father was called John Mott and he was a Tailor who was a witness at Williams wedding in 1884.
I am sure there may be a connection, I would love to know more about your Mott's. Where was your grandfather born ?
Dear Sarah,
After posting the message I did what I should have done earlier and look through the rest of the messages. I found a link to the 1891 census for Blakely and there found the William I was looking for living in the street where James (his brother) had lived/died. In 1891 he was 52, which is a better age match. William and James’s father was also called James so I think I am some way off establishing a connection to your line of the family.
The family so far is
James – no details
James - ~1837 to 10th March 1877. Not found birth certificate but died in Blakely (Manchester)
Married Sophia Mannery in 1861 (Sophia died in 1902 in Glasgow)
Children I know about
John 1861
Fred 1863
James Henry 1868
Sarah Maria 1870 (She also moved to Glasgow)
William 1874 – 1935
My father, another James, was the youngest of William’s seven children, all born in Glasgow. All the rest of my family are Scottish and have been much easier to find. However I now live in Manchester (how strange) so it really should be easy for me.
All the best
Hi Dave,
Just read through your entry, and concerning your James & Sophia - didn't they also have another James Henry born 1865 which died 1866 December qtr? They did according to the 1992 IGI.
Hello (Fred) Tradelin.
Apart from my original posting that Pauline helped me out with I have very little new to add  Cry
John William or William John (the name order changes) was the son of John Mott who I believe was a tailor in 1884. I would expect Manchester or Surrounding areas
Fingers and toes crossed  Smiley
