« on: Thursday 22 June 06 18:45 BST (UK) »

Is anyone studying these people please ?  I have found a William Pomroy on the 1841 census, and am keen to try and go further back.

Can you give us some more detail? Where is he in 1841? What age? Who did he marry? Do you have him in 1851?

If you can tell us a bit more there are plenty of people who will be happy to try and help you  Smiley

Hi,

The only Quethiock baptism I can see on the IGI (extracted record) is...

William POMERY (sic) bap 14 Nov 1824 at Quethiock
Parents - William and Catherine.

The 1851 census shows...

HO107/1900 - Quethiock
Folio 525 - p.6

17 Hammett Ford
William Pomery Head 28 Ag Lab
Mary Pomery Wife 30 St Martins
Jane Pomery Dau 4
William Pomery Son 2
John Pomery Brother Married 38 Ag Lab (relationship may also be visitor?)
Grace Pomery Sister-in-law M 28 Lifton Devon (relationship may also be visitor?)

All born Quethiock unless otherwise stated

(FreeBMD shows Marriages - Mar Q 1845 - St Germans District -
William POMRY and on same page Mary CLEMAS)

and the parents...

Folio 537 - p.30

98,Quethiock Village
William Pomeroy Head 63 Farm Labourer St Ive
Catherine Pomeroy Wife 57
Martha Ann Pomeroy Grandaughter 6 Farm Lab's Dau
Richard Bone Grandson 2 Farm Lab's Son
Thomas Trenaman Lodger Widower 52 Farm Labourer St Ive

All born Quethiock unless otherwise stated

Is this the William you are researching? I can see the same one in 1841 as a male servant in Quethiock age 15 - parents there too.

Hi Deb ... thanks for that ... I've already been put in touch with the ALLPOMS ... a GREAT web-site for researching Pomeroys and all alternative spellings !

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~allpoms/sitemap.html

Well worth looking at just to admire what a group of people with a keen organiser/leader can do !

I've been wasting too much time in the last week following up Pom leads on the internet ... lots of them in your neck of the woods !  As its fine here today I really MUST go and do something to the garden !

(But I'll be following up some more leads later, no doubt !)
