1861 census Redruth
« on: Friday 23 June 06 12:46 UTC (UK) »

l was wondering if someone could do a look up for me.

l'm assuming that JOHN HENRY STEPHENS B.ABT 1838 Redruth may be on RG9/1579 or RG9/1580 which don't appear on line as yet.  His occupation is Miner.

His mother was Susannah b.abt 1796 Redruth. l assume she may have died prior to this census.

His siblings were Martha b.abt 1821,Susanna b.abt 1826 ,James b.abt 1829 ,Mary b.abt 1831 ,William b. abt 1832 and Elizabeth b.abt 1836. All born Redruth. l'm yet to find these as well.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for looking Cathy, but, it's not him....

John Henry Stephens b.abt 1838 Redruth married a Mary Trevena b.abt 1835 Redruth between the 1861 census and June 1862 when they headed to California.

Mary Trevena shows on the 1861 census;-
Treskerty? St Day. RG9/1576 Folio 16 Sch 55.

Wondering now if perhaps John may have been living nearby, as their marriage would have been soon after.

Do you have access to this census? It's a possibility!

Thanking you again.

Hi  Scurrie,
Sorry i found the wrong info.
There are two Stephens  families that live a couple of streets away from Mary Trevena in Gwennapp, but they bear no resemblance to Johns Family..
He is certainly very elusive, i cant find a marriage for Mary and him between the
dates mentioned above in the BMD images.
There is a John H Stephens living in Gwenapp in 1861 but he is living with his sister Grace (age 26)and family  but i dont think he had a sister Grace!
There are an awful lot of Stephens in and around Redruth on ancestry.co,it might be worth your while looking there  , perhaps you could find the right family.
Sorry i could nt help more, good luck
           Cathy.
