My grandmother married her second husband in 1942. He died in 1987 - I have a copy of the death certificate. My grandmother was the informant. It says they had been married for 33 years. My calculation says 45 years

My greatgrandmother death certificate was full of mistakes as well, her age was quoted as 70, and its says that she had lived in NZ for 71 years she was infact 91 when she died. Her grandparents were listed as her parents and her living issues were listed as 65,60,58,55,51 and 7 when I questioned this with the registrar they told me that the information was correct. Haven't even bother trying to find that child

Hi All, It depends on the informant to what gets put on the certificates.
Yes they all are, but as you all know it is up to the Informant to what gets put there.

Yeah but won't it be good if they knew all the details, my greatgrandmother had lived with her daughter who was the informant for over 20 years and she still didn't get it right.

Well I thought I had a "kinky" family when I got my Grandmothers birth certificate ..... and her GRANDMOTHER was named her mother and her Dad was named her Dad !! When I questioned it - they told me that in the days when most people were illiterate - that the informant was usually a little intimidated by the registrar or priest and so when asked "name of mother ?"
My Great Grandfather named his own mother !!
Of course - I'm sorry to say ... the family hasn't improved too much over the years !!

And wouldn't they all be mortified if they knew we checked them out?
I love that 7 year old Jericho - she would certainly be wonder woman.
I'm sure you have sorted them all out Annie

OzyBob is spot on about the information depending on the wishes of the informant. I have the birth cert. of my great-grandmother's younger sister. (my g-grandmother was never registered) She was born 13 September 1858 and registered by her mother the next day, the 14th. She was born at Upper Cross Yard, Leeds. Two days before the birth, on the 11th, my gg-grandparents were married and neither of them were living at the above address. At least, that's what they told the registrar. I have great admiration for any woman who can get married, move house, give birth and get down to the registry office, all in three days! And lugging a two-year-old (my g-grandmother) around with her at the time. Remarkable, or should I say unbelievable!

I've got a really baffling one, about 8 children all on census records through 71 to 91 with John Smith.
However as I get birth and marriage certificates, they all name completely different men as their father. A pattern is beginning to emerge but I think the mother was a bit free, so far I have had a Wiliam Vinall, William Lovekin, Henry Lovekin and a John Lovekin. All men that I can find no trace of???
