Hi all I am very new to this but have just found out I descend from the Butterfields of Hitchin c1700s - 1800s any one who has information and indeed photos I would love to hear from you.

which would fit nicely

It seems likely that Henry who appears nextdoor in 1851 is William's brother and Abraham born c1786 nextdoor in 1841 is their father. Abraham senior is a bricklayer remarried to a Sarah in 51/61.

In case you don't already know
The parish records for Hitchin are well extracted onto the IGI
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=igi/search_IGI.asp&clear_form=true
If you put Abraham Butterfield and Esther in the father and mother boxes on the right and nothing in left and search only Hertfordshire you will find
William Palmer Butterfield baptised Hitchin St Mary 8 FEB 1815
plus siblings
This site allows you to search the IGI by parish

There is no other William Butterfield baptised Hitchin St Mary c 1815 so this one is likely to be yours especially, as William and Ann baptised their son William as William Palmer in 1835. The Palmer may be Esther's maiden-name.
