My Grt-Grt grandparents were Philip Gibney (c1834) and Rose Wright (c1842). I received their (1864) marriage certificate where they married in County Caven but it had Rose Wright's birth place down as Garrison? Does anybody have any information on the Wright (sometimes spelt Writt) family from Garrison?

Hello Juneoates 1, Garrison is in Co. Fermanagh, 6 miles due south of Beleek. Also because of the border shape it is about 8 yo 10 miles from Co Cavan. If you do to Griffiths valuation there are 3 Wrights with a Cavan townland in Fermanagh. Puzzled so am I .

Could this be that the townland Garrison was part of Cavan before some of the counties were split and became northern ireland?

Hello, I don't think so, it seems that Garrison has always been in Fermanagh. The border may have changed, and that the townland of Cavan, perhaps named after the County by people origianally from there. best wishes Peter

Only I had a reply on rootschat for Cavan which said that there is also a Garrison in Ballymachugh, County Caven? It's all so confusing

Hi, Sorry for delay, been away at W/E. I've checked on line and maps, there is a small townland called Garrison in Co Cavan. It is near the town of Ballymachugh, about 20 miles south of Cavan town. Beside Lough Sheelin a well known fishing spot. As your relatives were born there it wouldbe the place to concentrate on. Sorry about misleading you on the other Garrison, but hadnot heard of the Cavan one. good hunting Peter
