further research has led me to believe that james matthews was born between 1802 and 1808 in mayland in the district of maldon. his father john matthews married there in 1810 to a sarah cotton but it states he was a widower when he married so sarah may not be james's mother. if anyone can please have a look and verify any of this info i would be greatful
