the 1841 census durham
« on: Sunday 02 July 06 08:41 BST (UK) »

hello would someone please be able to locate a john cowley for me.  He was baptised in 1837 in durham and im hoping he is living in durham, his mum was called hannah but no father.  So hopefully in 1841 there will be a John and Hannah together, although I think that John may be living away from his mother.  Any help in locating this young child would be great.  Many Thanks for your help

Hi Mark

Was John baptised in the City of Durham or the County of Durham?

Am I right in assuming the baptism record only named Hannah - did it state John was illegitimate?

Were there any siblings of John?

Do you have John on later Census?

Regards

Hi Mark

Sorry, no luck finding Hannah and John together.  Could he have been with Hannah's parents?  Do you have their names?

I can try and find Hannah in 1841 if you give me her approx. birthyear and birthplace from later Census entries.

thanks for your reply, hannah would have been abt 20 in 1841.  In 1842 she married in Hartlepool so maybe she could have been in or around hartlepool.  On Hannah's marriage her dad was said to be a John Cowley also (a blacksmith).  Ive never been able to locate her dad on census either.
So either the little boy John is living with someone else or maybe he died in infancy.

Thanks
