James Henry WOOD of Worcester
« on: Friday 31 March 06 09:20 BST (UK) »

I'd love some help on this one!

James Henry Wood was born on 10th Feb 1887 in the Union Workhouse in the parish of St Martin, Worcester.  His mother was Lydia Wood, domestic servant of Beaver Row, St Peters, Worcester.  There is no father on the birth certificate.

I can't find Lydia on censuses before or after this event.  There are several James Woods in following censuses but I can't find anything to show that any of them might be 'my' James Henry Wood.

I'd be so grateful if someone could have a quick search for me, as I'm going round in circles on this one, getting nowhere!

Hi Katie

I don't know if this might be him but worth a try.

Can't seem to find Lydia neither but could this be James? and possible brother Samual?

1891:RG12/2330  Folio 178  Page 11

Worcester Union Workhouse, St Martin, Worcester.

James Henry Wood, Pauper, 4 - Scholar
Samual Wood, Pauper, 2 - Infant

Both born Worcester

Transcribed as Jame but think its James.

Regards.......Steve

PS: Sorry it's not a more pleasent find!

Dear Steve

thank you very much for your efforts - this certainly could be James and his brother Samuel (it's so sad!).  I shall have to look into this further to see if I can find anymore information about the workhouse.  I wonder if 'Lydia Wood' was a made-up name which might explain why we can't find any track of her.

thank you - big help!

Hi Katie

Not sure of Lydia would have been made up or not.  Huh

Still can't find her though!! It is always sad when you find ancestors that are paupers. We can only inagine what is must have been like!

Sorry I can't be more help at this time, but if I find anything else I will certainly let you know Wink

Good Luck
