lizdb - thanks for email. Not right one this time unfortunately. My John's wife was Esther, was a widow in 1851 so John must have died between 41-51. I do know he was a Barrack Manager, Pensioner when died. It was on a Military List that mentioned a John Chilton born in Rolleston. Whilst travelling, Ireland/England, his wife stayed in Manchester. I do not know what area John died, but cannot find anything for M/cr. Thank you helkar

Hi Esther was on the 1851 census living at Bradford Rd. Ancoats with her sister Susanna Walker and family On the 1861 census again with sister at 106 Ridgeway St. New Cross, both Manchester. Her death was 08.03.1866 age 67. She came from Rostherne, Cheshire. At the moment I think that the Military at Kew would be the best place, knowing a little of his service, though no service number. Unfortunately I live up north. Helkar

Ok got her in 1851 now
HO107 2226 846 13 157 Bradford Rd Manchester
Willam walker 37 warehouseman Susannah 37 Grocer bn Cheshire William 9 Frances 5 John Hamnet? 1 Esther Chilton sis in law widow 53 bn Cheshire John Chilton 25 bn Ireland Esther 21 bn Coventry William 18 bn Bristol Thomas 15 bn Ireland.
In 1841 the two younger children, William age 8 (not bn in county) and Thomas 5 (bn Ireland) are in Rostherne, Cheshire with the family of Hamblet Moyses? I really cant make out the surname. But looking at the Christian name Hamblet, and seeing that appear as middle name for one of Susanna Walkers children, I do wonder if these two boys are with their maternal grandparents, i.e Esther and Susannah's parents. HO107 94 12 Rostherne.

According to her chr on IGI Esthers parents WERE Hamnet and MAry - so yes it does look like 2 youngest are with grandparents.

Do you have census access?
I just looked at Chiltons in Nottmshire in 1841, and some came up in Rolleston. When I looked at the image it was actually Fisketon - which only went on to a few pages, so I flicked thorugh them and saw at least two Chilton families there.
Ancestry is available at most libraries if you dont have a subscription to any of the sites whereby you can see the censuses. Might be worth you going and having a look.
Also have you checked the IGI? www.familysearch.org
