Johnston(e) ?
« on: Friday 09 June 06 02:43 BST (UK) »

I am looking for information on Sarah Crosbie Johnston(e).
Believe that she may have been born C:-1857 in Dumfries.
There is also a possibility that she married a E.Beattie

Any information on her and family would be appreciated

James Johnston and Agnes Roger who married on 16 Jul 1849, Hawick, Roxburgh, had a daughter, Sarah Crosbie Johnston born 31 Oct 1857, Dumfries.  I couldn't find any mention of her marriage to an E. Beattie on ScotlandsPeople.  Given that there is a gap of 8 years between her parents' marriage and her birth, she probably had siblings, but there doesn't seem to be any born either at Hawick or Dumfries.

Hi Ted

There is a marriage entry showing on Scotlands People, the official pay to view site for BMD and censuses, for an Ebenezer Beattie and Sarah Johnston. The entry is showing in Dumfries, Dumfries-shire in 1887. I haven't viewed it, just searched with the details you provided.

Hi Purlin .

Thank you very much for ALL that wonderful information. You have given me "most" of what I have not had or been able to get.
In relation to James Johnston Beattie:-the research information that I had/have on him showed me initally that he was the son of Ebenezer,in the Inscriptions that you have sent it shows him as a grandson??

I do also not the different spelling of Johnston, particulary in the inscriptions.

Again I thank you for your time & effort

Regards

baldy,

your most welcome, i suppose there is always going to be discrepancies with old records. the grave stones are however 'written in stone' if you will pardon the pun.  therefore they should be more accurate.  but then......  who knows!
