Address in Bristol
« on: Friday 07 July 06 19:42 BST (UK) »

I’ve just found some relations I’ve been seeking for several years in the 1861 census in the St Paul’s district of Bristol. The address looks to me like 9 Minden Terrace but I can’t locate this address.

The ref is RG09 Piece 1719 Folio 30 page 11 with Reg district Bristol, Sub District 3 St Paul, Enum District  20, Ecclesiastical District St Clement,Parish St Paul.

Coulds SKS please tell me where this address is nowadays?

Many thanks

Pete

Hi
If you scan forwards or backwards through the pages you will find other roads on the enumerators route.
ie the one before seems to be Nilson St the one after looks like Upper Nilson St.
Neither of these appears in the current Multimap and so can't be located using the Address search on Oldmaps however you may, by searching further in that register find a road that is still there.
if you then find that on Oldmaps you will probably find Minden Terrace by looking in that area.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try it over the weekend.

Got this reponse from Bristol RO

"Dear Mr Walker,
Thank you for the e-mail. The address in question is Windsor
Terrace, which unfortunately no longer exists. It was located to the east of
Portland Square, running parallel behind the church of St.Paul, and
connected Bishop Street to Wilson Street. The address that you identified
as Nelson Place was in fact Wilson Place.........."
