Are the Jenkins of Camelon related??
« on: Monday 10 July 06 13:11 BST (UK) »

Whilst researching my Jenkins line-William Jenkins born Falkirk 1810c & Ann Mackie born Dumfermline I have found a swathe of Jenkins all living in Camelon & mostly all employed as Nailors. They are calling their children by the same names Robert,Catherine,Ann & Margaret.
I am wondering how to prove any relationship as I cannot find any Birth for William & his Death Certificate the parents are reported by a non-family member.

Hi Joette, this probably won't help you prove anything ... but I have found this family in the 1851 census index for Falkirk and Ann, the wife (aged 40) is shown as being born in Falkirk not Dunfermline.

Children are Ann aged 1, Robert aged 16, Catherine aged 10, but there is no Margaret shown, husband William is aged 40.

regards,

Lindsay

Yes thanks for that I am assuming the 1851 entry for Ann senior is a mistake as the 1861 shows her as Dumfermline & it is where they were married also.
Margaret the first had died & in the 1861 Census they have Margaret 2-aged 8 unless off course they had two  living Margaret's but can find no evidence of this.
Margaret had a tragic time of it  she was left a young widow with three children plus she had an illegitimate daughter after about three years as a widow-James Pinkerton. Her eldest boy was killed in a pit accident. She remarried to a John Nugent & they had about ten children between yours, mine & ours. Her daughter then I assume ran off & married an older man-she 17 he 28 -an irregular one too.

Very tragic, makes you wonder sometimes how they coped.

The first Margaret is still alive aged 3 in the 1841 census living in Camelon.

All birthplaces shown as Stirlingshire for

William aged 32, Nailor
Ann aged 28
Robert aged 5
Ann aged 6 months

I am wondering how to prove any relationship as I cannot find any Birth for William & his Death Certificate the parents are reported by a non-family member.

Did the non-family member give any parent's names at all?
