1841 census look up please
« on: Monday 10 July 06 17:01 BST (UK) »

Hi,

I'm hoping that someone can help me find the following on the 1841 census:-

William Richards probably born  1785-1795 occupation in Aug. 1838 - shoemaker.  Probably living in the Shifnal area of Shrops., and he is possibly married to Jane.

I know I don't have much information, so it could be hard to find, I'll just have to cross my fingers.

Thanks
Kaz

Hi,

Thanks for trying Heywood, I don't think that's the one as the couple I'm looking for had their first child in 1813, therefore, the Jane you found is too young. I knew it would be hard to find, as I don't have much info. only that which was taken from his daughters marriage cert. in 1838.  He and his wife may even have died.

Thanks again.

There's a William Richards buried at St Andrew Shifnal 22 Jul 1833 aged 47 (per NBI).

That would fit with the Jane, William, Elizabeth at High Street (IGI shows William and Jane having children Mary 1812, John 1813, Elizabeth 1815, Jane 1817, William 1819 and Anne 1821) especially as William jnr was listed as a shoe maker in 1841.

Hi Heywood & Alnat,

I'm sure we now have the right one, living in High Street, Shifnal.  I had suspected that William & Jane were the correct parents for my 3x gr.grandmother Anne, from the IGI, but wanted a bit more evidence to back it up and I thought that if I found the family on the 1841 census, and William was a shoemaker, then I was right.  I'm sure that, as you said Alnat, William jnr. being a shoemaker does confirm them as being the right family.

Thank you both so much.
