Potters in Bo'ness
« on: Tuesday 11 July 06 15:22 BST (UK) »

HI: I am wondering if anyone can tell me where I can get more information about the people who worked in the pottery works in Bo'ness  between 1860- early 1900. My GGG grandfather John Henderson, his son John, his daughter Mary, and most of their children were potters.  Are there any museums or places which might store papers, employee lists, photos etc ?  Thanks.    Donna

Hi,

I have ceated a website that documents the history of the Bo'ness potteries.  It contains census listings of pottery workers for 1841, 1851 and 1881 and there are Hendersons in all three.

The address is  www.bonesspottery.com

Falkirk Museums may hold some papers relating to the potteries but I cannot be certain.  They have some old photos but most of them are on my site.  The photos they wouldn't allow me to use are from the 1940s and 1950s.

Hope you find something of interest on the website.

Hi;  I just went to the site and found my people on the census link from 3X great grandfather John Henderson in 1841  to his sons and granddaughter in 1881. also I now know  which company they worked for so that must mean that the other siblings who were listed as potters on a census may have worked for one of the other companies.  What a great site and thank you so much for the link and info.  Donna
