Hi I would appreciate any help in tracing the families of my Gr.Gr.Grandparents James Small and his wife Rebecca Harvieson, they were born aprox.1836. My Gr.Grandmother was born in Dumbarton in 1859 and the family then moved to Jarrow, England. In the 1881 English census Rebecca names Dumbarton as her place of birth and James, Scotland, I think this may have been Ayr. Thanks Rayb

Could this have been Rebecca in 1841? Family called Harbison - may be mistranscribed - living at West Bridgend, Cardross, Dunbartonshire, albeit that they were all born in Ireland. I couldn't see anything else even close to Rebecca Harvieston.
Elizabeth aged 35, Independent Robert, aged 13 Jane, aged 11 Ann, aged 8 Rebecca, aged 5 Martha, aged 3
Others living in the same household called McCaughey.
I found 32 James Smalls born 1836 + or - 5 years on the 1841 but only two in Ayrshire
Living at Vennel Street, Dalry, Ayrshire, all born in Ayrshire
Mathew Small, aged 45, Cotton Hand Loom Weaver Betty Small, aged 45 Janet Small, aged 15, Silk Sewer John Small, aged 15, Cotton Hand Loom Weaver Matthew Small, aged 8 James Small, aged 6 Elizabeth Small, aged 3
Living at Bridgend, Kilwinning, Ayrshire, all born in Ayrshire
James Small, aged 45, Joiner Elizabeth Small, aged 40 Margaret Small, aged 15 Neil Small, aged 15 Catherine Small, aged 13 Agnes Small, aged 10 James Small, aged 7 Janet Small, aged 4 Archibald Small, aged 2
