AMES in the UK, West Midlands
« on: Tuesday 11 July 06 21:48 UTC (UK) »

Hi

I'm researching the AMES family in the Stourbridge, Clent, Lye and Old Swinford area of the West Midlands in England.  I'm back to Thomas AMES born 1806 or thereabouts in Old Swinford.

Is anyone interested in sharing info?

I would be interested in helping /sharing information on Ames/Amis/ Amys /Amos from Rugeley Hinkley Yoxall Birmingham Middlesex Derby area's. My branch is Richard Ames b1758 married Elizabeth Deeman I can go further back. I have plenty of Enochs Solomons Theophilis and Thomas's if that helps anyone.

My brick wall is Obadiah William Ames born Pesth Hungary of british parents. I can trace him and his two wives and children right up to the 1881 census where I then find him with a different wife an Elizabeth Ames , then I loose him only to find he died in Burnley 1895 with a different wife called Maud Ames as the informant! It's so easy to know it's him because he was born in Hungary. Any ideas or Advice welcomed.

Carole I'm still searching for your Thomas 1806 I think perhaps we have to look for a variation on the spelling to find him. Joy

Hi Joy

Sorry, I've only just picked this message up.

Now I've retired (hooray) I've been able to browse for the whereabouts  Samuel (The Love Rat) AMES in 1861 and 1851.

On the 1861 census in Brighton, Surrey, I've come across a Samuel AMES aged 34 who was an unmarried Iron Moulder born in Burton upon Trent, Staffs.  He appears again on the 1851 census in Southwark, Surrey aged 22 as an unmarried  Moulder born in Burton, Derbyshire.  I feel sure they are the same person, but I'm unsure if he's our ancestor.  I've attached the census copies for you.

What do you think?

Carole
