My Mum made me pretty frocks

Oh - someone after my own heart I was just coming onto this board to have a look around for any pointers on using it. Not so much unzipping.
So that's two of us for the price of one

Glad it worked
Could I ask a question about using this software. please. One of my pages/topics will be about the seven grt grandparent lines (call it people-page). I want to talk about each of these lines and then have a link to their particular tree and surnames relating to it. Can I use phpgedview to construct each list/tree and have a link to it from each of my 'people-story'pages. Like this:
Home -> People -> 7 lines (each with stories) -> tree info

So that's two of us for the price of one OK I'll just give each of you half of the answer
No ?? Oh alright then
If you look at the tutorial, Topic: Tutorial: Step-by-Step Guide to building your website 4 b) Programs for creating webpages from GEDCOM files: http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,93490.msg397241.html#msg397241 at the bottom of the page you will see
# phpgedview # More to follow - one day - sometime Looks like sometime is now !!
Not got a lot of time at the moment, so here is the "Reader's Digest" version to be going on with:
- create a folder (directory) named phpgedview on your computer and unzip phpgedview to this folder - using an FTP program, upload the whole of this folder to a new folder phpgedview on your website - upload your GEDCOM file to the folder /phpgedview/index - on your home page, include a link to /phpgeview/index/index.php
and that's it (for now, more later, hopefully integrated with your feedback, on the tutorial)

hi anyone who has time to read this who isnt falling about laughing at the antics /postings of us wrinklies trying to use our free webpage. i downloaded the phpGEDview from Kent mirror. i unzipped it, but didnt get an .EXE, just 818 files and 30 folders! the readme txt says to upload all the files to my rootschat webspace...so, i had a go which isnt easy uploading 818 files.i thought maybe "select all" would do the trick, but only one file at a time is highlighted. honest, i have tried, i even re-named my .index as a security thingy. And am scouring the readme.txt for clues should it unzip with an .EXE [i'm using unregistered winzip -which hasnt given me any probs in the past.. I told you i was too old for all this, now me myself i has confirmed it. I tried using the FTP Manager to upload one file at a time, but then I thought there must be an easier way: After unzipping the ZIP file, find the 'phpGEDView' folder. Right-click, select 'Send To', 'Web Publishing Wizard'. A few details of your web address are needed, and it should upload (10 Megs!) About 5 minutes on Broadband, 5 weeks on dialup! Next steps: - set permissions of index directory & config file.
- run some admin tasks
- upload your Gedcom file
- tell everyone about your site!
(I'm at the uploading GEDcom stage)
Hi I have just tried right clicking on the phpgedview folder to 'send to' web publishing wizard.but I'm not even offered that option!!

Hi again
If it's that size, you won't be able to do it via the Rootschat FTP - I think the max upload varies between 0.5 and 1 MB. I read somewhere that 'they' will put it in your webspace for you. Otherwise, you'll have to create a folder with the same name in your webspace and upload the individual files to it. I think, though Bob will correct me if I'm wrong
