Looking for any information on Marcella Gillies.
I have searched Scotlands People site for a birth or OPR entry, and cannot find anything. According to her marraige cert and death cert, and various census', she would have been born 1854 OR 1855.
Her parents were Duncan Gillies and Christy MacLeod. Other known child of this couple was Peggy Gillies born 3rd August 1857, in Carradale, Sleat.
Marcella married Charles MacPherson on 16 Feb 1875 at Ardavasar, Sleat. She died 27 June 1938 (age 83) in Sleat.
Any help appreciated Gill

Hi Debbie, thanks for the reply. I already have a copy of the marraige cert for Marcella to Charles MacPherson. Its finding her birth that is the problem. Ive searched the statutory birth records, also the OPRs, but cant find anything at all. However, I will do as you suggest and contact Catherine, to see if she can shed some light. Again, many thanks, Gill

Hi Gill
This may be a long shot, but ...
Marcella seems to be an unusual name, I wonder if it could be Marsaili which is the Gaelic form of Marjory? Don't know if you've already tried searching under these first names too?
I know that registrars sometimes took liberties with Gaelic spellings - I've got a female ancestor whose first name was recorded as "Eric" - she was more likely called Oighrig!
Hope this helps! Lynn

Not sure if there is a link here but I have a Marjory Gillies c1838 born in Applecross to Duncan Gillies and Margaret/Marion/Maron McRae married 5 Jul 1831 in Bracadale Duncan's father is also Duncan Gillies (no info). Margaret/Marion/Maron McRae mothers maiden name was Meron Gillies.
All very complicated.
Was very interested to read Gill's post about the Gailic spelling. Steve
