I have a somewhat sad story behind my search, as i've been trying very hard for a few years now to find my birth grandmother. My mother was born in 1928 and handed over to virtual strangers at 6 weeks old. There was no official adoption (introduced shortly thereafter i believe) and no paper work of any kind is available. All i have to go on is the name on my mothers birth certificate. I have managed to find and obtain the birth cert. and marriage cert. of a person with the same name, from that area, and the possibility that it is her is quite high. I have spent several years now looking, i've also had a search done by 'traceline' and hit a blank wall everywhere. Could she have emmigrated ? I'm at a total loss but would so wish to fulfil my dream to only have a picture of my grandmother.
Firstly, it's usuallly helpful to have a name and place in there.
If you have a marriage record of the person whom you believe to be grandma, then try searching the local newspapers of the time for wedding photos, or on signifigant anniversaries 10,20,25 years for family announcements.
At least then you may have an idea if there is a family resemblance.

If you're fairly sure that the marriage cert you have is the right one, have you tried to search for any children from that marriage? If you can trace them you may be able to find out more.
You might want to add to your Rootschat profile the names and areas you are searching for in case anyone on the boards is looking for the same family.
