Hi Allan,
Is this the family you are looking for,

1851 HO107/1991 f.270 p.6 Astley Astley Lane

Possible births,

Sarah ADAMS Dec Q 1840 Atcham v.18 p.7
Benjamin ADAMS Jun Q 1843 Atcham v.18 p.7
If so then it looks like Sarah is slightly older than you thought, but this would fit with the Sarah here,
1861 RG9/1867 f.36 p.9 Astley
Thomas ADAMS Head Wid 54 Ag Laborer William " " Son Mar 28 Ag Lab Sarah " " Daughter-in-law Mar 20 Ag Lab Wife John " " Grandson 12months All born Salop Astley
Possible birth,
John ADAMS Jun Q 1860 Atcham v.6a p.605
Of course I may be looking at totally the wrong people
If you don't mind me asking whose birth certificate do you have and what are the details?
Regards Daisy

Hi Allan,
I'm glad it was them
I found most of the births from the GRO Index.
You mention that Sarah ADAMS Snr maiden name may be BROOKES this could be the marriage ref,
John ADAMS Sep Q 1838 Shrewsbury v.18 p.206
Sarah BROOKES on same page with others
I expect you've seen the IGI entries for Sarah BROOKS b. 14 Apr 1817, Myddle/Hadnall, father Benjamin, mother Elizabeth, this looks possible for them in 1841,
Oh that's strange this family and their neighbours seem to appear twice
1. HO107/927/7 f.7 p.11 Civil Parish: Middle Hundred: Shrewsbury Borough Reg Dist: Ellesmere Sub Reg dist: Baschurch Township: Haston This one is transcribed as BROOK
2. HO107/918/11 f.42 p.6 Civil Parish: Ellesmere Hundred: Pimhill (Ellesmere Division) Reg Dist: Ellesmere Sub Reg dist: Baschurch Township: Hadnall, Hardwick, Haston & Su??heath This one is transcribed as BROOKS then the whole page and previous page have X through them, guess someone figured out they had been enumerated twice
Benjamin BROOKS 50 Ag Lab Elizabeth 55 Thomas 25 Ag Lab Martha 7 All born in county
Certainly looks possible, maybe Benjamin b.1843 was named after his Grandfather, I think getting his birth cert. may be a good idea

In 1851 Martha is still down as daughter,
1851 HO107/1994 f.549 p.22 Hadnall
Benjamin BROOKES Head M 65 Ag Lab Salop Bagley Elizabeth Wife M 66 " wife " " Preston Gubbals John Son U 32 AgLab " " Haston Hadnal Martha Daur U 17 Dressmaker " " " " Joseph ELLIS Visitor U 22 Shoemaker Shrewsbury
but the IGI has...
Martha BROOKES Chr: 22 Sep 1833 Hadnall, Shropshire Mother: Sarah BROOKES
...so she could be the illegitimate daughter of Sarah Brookes, daughter of Benjamin & Elizabeth, Sarah would have been very young when Martha was born so perhaps it was decided that she should be brought up by her grandparents
There is this marriage, which I mention because of the lodger on the above census.
Martha BROOKES Jun Q 1852 v.6b p.497 Wolverhampton Shropshire, Staffordshire, West Midlands
other names on page,
Joseph ELLIS Evan DAVIS Charlotte PRICE
If this is her marriage it may show Benjamin as her father as she may not of known they were not her parents. I have seen this happen before.
In 1861 I can see Joseph and Martha ELLIS living in Bilston, Staffordshire
