Angus McIver Birth Look-up please
« on: Tuesday 18 July 06 10:34 UTC (UK) »

Would someone please be able to do 2 look-ups for me .

Angus Mciver was born 1875-1880 in ?Breasclete ?Carloway ?Uig His parents were Annie McArthur and Finlay McIver.

Birth of Angus's mother Annie McArthur about 1837 to parents Mary Smith and Niel McArthur. She was probably also born around the same area.
Thanks so much for your help
Kind regards

ScotlandsPeople shows 4 Angus McIvers born in Ross & Cromarty between 1875 and 1880:

1878 -  2 matches, born Lochs, Ross & Cromarty
1880 -  2 matches, 1 born Lochs, 1 born Barvas, Ross & Cromarty.

Sorry, I have no spare credits to do a look-up but SP enables you to look-up 5 entries for 30 credits costing £6.00.

The I.G.I. (http://www.familysearch.org) shows the following marriage and the children:

Fenla McIver  married Ann McArthur 6/4/1855 Uig

John      29/12/1856 Uig
Donald  02/04/1859 Carloway
Mary      06/01/1862       "
female   15/07/1864       "
Peggy    26/06/1870       "

The marriage is within the civil registration period which started in 1855, and the certificate will supply:

       1. When and where married.
       2. How married - Church of Scotland etc.
       3. Names and occupations of bride and groom,
marital status and relationship (if any).
       4. Ages of bride and groom.
Birthplace, where and when registered (1855
           only.)
        5. Usual residences.
        6. Names of both sets of parents, occupations
            of fathers, maiden and subsequent
surname of mothers, and whether alive or
            dead.
        7. Names of minister, registrar and witnesses.
        8. Where and when registered.
        9. Number of children by any other marriage
            (1855 only.)

I couldn't find the marriage of Neil McArthur and Mary
Smith, nor the birth of their daughter Ann.  However,
there was an entry for the birth of a son Malcolm on
1 Nov 1843 at Uig.

Hope this is of some help.

Don't waste your time looking for that marriage. I've tried to find it on ScotlandsPeople using variations of their names but no joy.  It's a pity because it would have taken you back another generation, by showing the place of their births and the date of same.

Hi there Isles,
Thanks so much for your help.
That is the family of McIvers with Fenla as the husbands name instead of Finlay. Its amazing the different spelling I have come across for his name. I have been able to find Angus's other 9 siblings but not his birth.
Did you mean  Neil McArthur and Mary Smith's marriage are not in Scotlands people. Thank you for looking for me. Yes Ann did have a brother Malcolm.
I dont think the family in the 1841 census is my McIvers but are probably some relation when I find how they fit in.

Once again appreciate your help

By using FreeCen and the I.G.I. I've discovered a little more about your McIvers and McArthurs.

Murdo McIVER m. Catherine ?
Their children: John 1826; Donald 1826; Kenneth 1831; Finlay 1835; Malcolm 1837; Angus 1840. This is taken from the 1841 Census of Uig. They were living at Breasclet, and Murdo is described as a Small Tenant.

Neil McARTHUR m. Mary Smith on 9 Mar 1836, Uig.
In the 1841 Census they were also living at Breasclet, and altough there was no mention of Annie, their son Malcolm was listed. He was born at Uig on 1 Nov 1843.

Finlay McIVER m. Ann McARTHUR on 6 Apr 1855, Uig.
Their son was Angus McIVER born 1855-1885.
ScotlandsPeople lists 4 of that name:

Lochs  1878
   "      1878
   "      1880
Barvas 1880
