Barnsley district marriage 1898
« on: Wednesday 19 July 06 15:55 UTC (UK) »

I have found a marriage 1898 April/May/June quarter  9c 306 for Harry Burkinshaw but cannot find his spouse as there are only 3 people on same page.

I wonder if anyone has any parish records for that time although I don't know which church it was.

Thank you Christine

Do you know when or where Harry was born or any children he may have?

Harry was born 1870 in Sheffield.

I have him on 1901 census living in Sheffield and married to Sarah with daughter Emily (my grandmother)

I am almost sure Sarah's maiden name was Hall but wanted to check if this was their marriage.

1901 census would seem to indicate you struck it lucky, and he did marry the only female on the Marriage Index page.

whoops  Roll Eyes Cry

small world !

but what that suggests is that the Marriage Index you found isnt the right Harry ?

Is it just her maiden you need, or also her father - hence a Marriage Cert vs a Birth Cert for Emily ?

Have you got Emily's birth certificate? that will solve the problem of her mothers name.

Heres my bit.......

In 1891 there is a Sarah Thorpe  17 (Father William) with parents living
Brightside Bierlow
RG12/3831-19-31
And at
RG12/3834-118-21 Is Harry Burkinshaw 20

So if it is them they grew up very close to each other

Thanks everyone for all your help. I had seen the other marriage to Sarah Thorpe but was convinced her maiden name was Hall as I found my Grandmothers sisters birth in 1915 and it gave maiden name as Hall.

Maybe Sarah died and he remarried. I will have to get the birth cert and then go on from there. I was hoping to get both of them together.

Thanks again  Christine

Just another thing to throw in the works. I did find a Charles Needham and Harriet Needham on 1901 census both in Barnsley but can't look at images to see if they are together.

They are the other 2 on marriage ref.

The young Harriet and Charles living in Barnsley in 1901 are single and in fact brother and sister. They are living with their parents.
