Sarah Murdoch - Born c1829

Hi,

I'm trying to find details on a Sarah Murdoch born in County Tyrone.
I have a birth date of 29 September 1829, but have no idea how accurate this is. It was taken from a Family Bible, but there are a few questions about other contents in the bible.

She married my G-G-Grandfather Robert James in September 1852, in Cumbernauld, Scotland. She died on 4 October 1898 in Airdrie, Scotland.

I have no idea when she moved to Scotland, or who her parents were.

Is there an easy way to find out any more details on her?

Hi Alan, Do you have the 1851 census, pre marriage, for Sarah Murdoch? I see a possible one on S.P. for the correct age group. It may tell you who she was living with in 1851, hopefully family. Any siblings deaths after 1855 might give you her parents names, (as they don't seem to be on her death cert. from your posting).

Thanks for the reply and also for giving me a little prod in the right direction. I think the weather here is going to my head, I just realised I hadn't gotten the death cert., the death date came from cemetery records!

I've just looked up the death cert on S.P. and there they are... d'oh!
Do you know if there's any way of finding out when she moved from Ireland?

Hi Alan, I think I would try for the 1851 census Sarah Murdoch and family, then see if any of Sarahs siblings were born in Scotland, it might narrow it down... However if she's working away from home, then you would have to search for the parents names, but that might be a fruitless task if they didn't come to Scotland Roll Eyes

Afterthought-you could try for Sarhas mums death cert in Scotland , under her married and maiden name. The double search for females on S.P. Then it would tell you whether she was a widow or still married at time of death to Sarahs dad.

What were her parents names and I'll have a wee look on Griffiths Valuation .

I know exactly what you mean about the weather, I don't know how many times I've typed this (and it's probably STILL not what I mean to say)

P.S. There appears to be 12 MurdocK entries and just the one MurdocH in G.V. (Tyrone) (1860 for the Murdoch entry.)

Her father was Richard Murdoch and mother Sarah Wilkie.

Hi Alan, The family is there on the 1851 census, if you can wait till tonight I'll post details, but I don't think this is going to be straightforward. Children seem to all be born Scotland, (but that really depends on who gave info-places of birth given by children aren't always correct)

There is a son for Robert James and Sarah called Malcolm, b.1857. I think he (or a cousin) registered his grannys death cert, but got names back to front. There is an R.C.E. attached.

A search on Sarah M*rd*, Wil* will bring it up. he is the informant ,grandson.

(No Richard on G.V. for Tyrone, but he wouldn't be if he's in Scotland Roll Eyes

)
