I am trying to find the marriage of John MILLWARD to a miss SEVERN, probably at Heanor ca. 1830. Joseph Millott Severn writes in his book that John Millward married one of the Severn sisters. I know who all the other sisters married, including my ancestor, Sarah Severn (to Edward FARNSWORTH) but can't find this one. any help would be appreciated Ann

Hi, Just another way of looking for this:-
Have you taken the names of marriage partners of the Severn Sisters from the book and then searched for their Marriages?
You may have identified all the Severn Bpts., if this is the case you must be left with a sister/s for whom you do not have a marriage, and therefore you must have a Christian Name for this sister. Have you searched for their marriage without using the name of John Millward?
If you could post parents, siblings, Bpts., it would assist in the search.

Dear Spendlove, Thank you for your reply and interest. 'Her' parents were Hannah (nee Morewood) and William Severn, Quakers of Codnor. The other daughters of Hannah/William were, Ann, (married George Walters), Mary. (married Edward Eyre), Hannah, (married Thomas Taylor), and Sarah, (married Edward Farnsworth). Although the Severns were Quakers the girls all married in the Parish church at Heanor. Yes, I have tried to check for a marriage without using John Millward's name but have had no success. Regards Ann35

Hi, Although Quakers they would, I think, have been required by Law to marry in a Church of England Church.
I think you will find very little information on line, just because they were Quakers.
You could try www.sog.org.uk/prc/derbyshire.shtml who hold various Quaker Bpt., Marriages etc. There is a Charge.
Their Baptisms you will probably find in Quaker Records, all the girls state on Census born Codnor. Ann abt 1797 Mary Abt 1801 Hannah Abt 1808 Sarah Abt 1813 However only 3 of these marriages are records from the actual church registers on Batch No. M054541, the marriage of Hannah to Thomas Taylor of 1827 either Duffield or Heanor are patron submitted items, and may not be correct.
All the above, is assuming I have the correct people from the information you gave. Spendlove

Dear Spendlove, Thank you once again. I'll try that Website. Yes, you have the right people. Some time ago I had been in touch with a descendant of Hannah (nee Severn) and Thomas Taylor's youngest son (Severn Taylor), so I know a fair bit about them. thanks again for your help, Regards Ann35
