Well.......................................You try to help someone......................

Sorry, actually I wasn't aware that you already knew.....My site didn't use a 'ready made' program so I hadn't seen the other topic.

It was done using a mixture of Java and HTML, plus a load of jpegs and other components that I 'made' and assembled into the frames.

What I am shortly about to do is an FTP facility......because the BT Broadband limit for big files is about 20Mb, I can't send large files......but if I upload the file to the new facility (my website has a 500Mb limit) it will send an email for the recipient to go to my site and collect it.

I suppose you know all about that as well ( I'm off for a big sulk)

Yes - sorry Al, you'll just have to read up all those links and threads on the Free Rootschat Webspace Board. This thread is strictly about methods for preventing images being downloaded from one's website  Cool

Bob has put in a lot of time and effort to gather all the bits and pieces of info together and it would be churlish (and a bit daft) to keep re-inventing the wheel.

There are masses of FTP around. NOF has it's own  Grin

In the best possible humour, so I'm a "churl" now, am I?

Yeah, I know there are plenty of FTP about, but I will have my own which means that very confidential files are less likely to 'go astray'.

One reduced file size image (I have the original at 450kb) of a page from

http://www.webdevelopersnotes.com/tips/html/stopping_right_clicks_by_visitors.php3

that we aren't supposed to be able to right click.

Crudely, yes (there are other slightly more subtle methods) .... that is why it is almost impossible to prevent such theft. As I said earlier the casual thief can be deterred by various methods but the determined one really won't be stopped unless the image has a very visible watermark which has been integrated into the image on show. Although even then there are possibilities,it all depends how much work your thief wants to put into the job.

Grabbing the screen image took 15 seconds max.....hardly an effort.

If its high resolution on your screen it can be grabbed at high res.

In my opinion, for what it is worth (not much, it would seem) the best way to do it is to allow them to nick the image, but to degrade it as much as possible.

And by keeping the file sizes low, you don't have to go messing around with download time settings.

Why make work?
