Can anybody suggest any books ,fact or fiction which deal with everyday Westmorland life in the 1700 and 1800s.
I find it very difficult to imagine how my ancestors lived .They worked the land, small farmers or labourers ,a joiner ,a shoemakerGirls seem to be servants till they married.
Any thoughts ?

A year at Ambleside by Harriet Martineau may be of some use or write/email to the Amblseide Museum and Armitt Library there is lots of info there --they even found me a photo of my husband's great grand parents --very good service.

Hi Sue,

Where do your Farrers of Westmorland come from?

I have Farrers from Warcop.
