could someone please do me a lookup of the 1861 census please.
James Rose (born about 1823) and wife Hannah (born about 1821). Hopefully should also feature son James W Rose who should be no more than two years old.
I’ve checked the records in Ludlow library and discovered the following:
At Harpfields James Rose (snr)-Head-Aged 77-Farmer of 180 acres Ann Rose-Wife-Aged 72-Farmers wife James Rose-Son-Aged 35-Farmer Hannah Rose-Wife-Aged 36-Farmers wife James W. Rose-Son-Aged 10M Thomas Reynolds-G/Son-Aged 12-Scholar George Clayton-G/Son-Aged 11-Scholar Edward Reynolds-visitor-Aged 48-invalid PLUS 6 Servants
The fiche and fiche readers are not the best and so this particular record is difficult to decipher - sorry!
James snr is farmer of 180 acres and something else involving the number 2 that I can’t read The surnames Reynolds and Clayton are my best guesses
Place of births also present problems: James snr appears to be Worcs, Leamington Ann-Staffs, town appears to end ‘ton’ James-Salop, Burford Hannah-Herefordshire, town unreadable James W-Salop, Burford Thomas-Shropshire George-London Edward-Salop
If you want me to double-check anything, pls let me know.
that's great - thank-you. I'm really grateful for all the trouble you must have gone to to look this up for me. It's much appreciated.
I need to dig out all the docs for that side of the family so I can cross-reference with what we've already got - but at first glance everything you've found seems to tally.
Thanks again - you might just have made my great-aunt's Christmas!
