Geoff I am presuming the red dates are the burial dates? Is there a burial grid ref for them?

Hart Buck (died 5 Dec 1858), Grantham Cemetery, 8 Dec
Mary Buck (died 15 Jan 1861) Grantham Cemetery, 18 Jan

Hi Susan

Yes

No - not in National Burial Index

Thanks Kathy I really appreciate your help.

I just found a notebook in which I have scribbled info on Buck burials at Grantham at Granthan Cemetery.

Buck 1793, 1794

10 12x - Ann Buck bur. 25 May 1886 (not sure where she died)
10 12x - William Buck bur. 17 Mar 1882 (died 14 Mar 1882, 26 Castlegate)

I hope this info helps somewhat.

Cheers Susan

Hi Susan,
Smiley
Have been in touch with the office at Grantham cemetary and they have been kind enough to look up the following Buck names and have given me the plot Nos.

Hart. Dec 1858 & Mary.Jan 1861 are buried  Section 10  Plot 10X

Annie Jan 1860.   William.Mar 1882 & Ann May 1886 are buried Section 10 Plot 12X

I don't know if you have a map of the cemetary but they are kindly going to send me a grid map with the graves marked on it.

I understand that you came to Grantham in 2004 If you can remember when you visited the cemetary the position of the above graves are to the far left of the main entrance immediatly behind the gatekeepers house.

I don't know what state the headstones are in or what they are made of(a lot of them in that area are slate)but if you want I could try and take a photo of them for you.

Cheers

Thanks Beady, do you mean the parish burial register only?

I have a reference for his Baptism: 25 Oct 1825
St Wulfrum’s, Grantham Church Register, 1813-1859, Baptisms and Christenings, Film #0432511 #1542357

Then he just disappears, not in census info with rest of family from 1841, so I am assuming he died soon after Christening but definately before age 15. A mystery!  Huh

Another thought is that i may have the christening info wrong?

Thanks for all your efforts

This is note I have attached to Charles Buck's file.

Death/Burial: 7 Nov 1825 St Wulfram’s Grantham???

I do not have any reference or clarification of this, have no idea where I got it from.

So if Charles was baptised 25 Oct 1825 then according to this note he would have died and been buried 2 weeks later.

Can anyone find Burial for Charles Buck on 7 Nov 1825 at St Wulfram's?

Thanks Susan

I think I might have made a breakthrough location Cahrles.
If he didn't die as an infant or child this may be him in the 1841 Census:

1841 Census
BUCK, Charles
STAMFORD UNION, Lincolnshire
HO107 piece 625 folio 9/28 page 8

High Street
Charles Adlin, M 30, Draper - Born in county Y
Edward Bond, M 25, Draper Jnr – N
John Horden, M 23, Draper Jnr – Y
Edward Pick, M 21, Draper Jnr – Y
Charles Buck, M 15, Draper Apprentice - Y
Ann Phillips, F 20, Servant, Y
Sarah Derborough, F 15, Servant, Y

His father Hart was a Draper and his brothers were Tailors and Drapers.
There is also this marriage in 1850 in Newark, Notts.

Marriages Sep QTR 1850 - Newark, Vol15/ Page 806
BUCK Charles
(possible spouse: Hannah Clark, Mary Edgley, Ann Hill, Elizabeth Sheppard)

In the 1851 Census I have found Charles' parents Hart and Mary Buck living in Newark on Trent with a Drapery (employing 3 men).
This has always seemed strange - why move to Newark for 5-6 years and set up business and then move back to Grantham? Maybe they were financing the Drapery for their son Charles who would have been 25 in 1851.

I guess I should start a new topic asking for help tracing Charles marriage and possible death around Newark Nottingham.

Thanks to all

Hi,

I have searched for a Charles Buck & Ann Hill marriage & the only one I come up with is the one you found at Newark.

The reason I did this is that I have found a Charles Buck in Sutton-in-Ashfield, Notts (who married an Ann Hill) in the 1851 Census (HO107; Piece: 2123; Folio: 551; Page: 14) I presume her maiden name was Hill because he was down as a son-in-law & they were living with her parents, James & Ann Hill.

Unfortunately, this maybe rules out your theory because he was born in Leicestershire & was a shoemaker.  He was aged 24, she was 18 & born in Derbyshire.

I know this doesn't rule him out, but maybe needs looking into a bit more & as you said, a posting on the Nottingham board would be a good idea.

Thanks Geoff

Thanks Gill, good research, and now I have some more to go on.
I have posted a topic on the Nottingham board.

So having established there is no record of the death of Charles Buck in Grantham, I think this topic has run its coarse. I need to look elsewhere.

Thanks to all.  Grin
