RAINE Family
« on: Monday 24 July 06 13:23 BST (UK) »

Hi,
Am looking for any information on my g g g grandfather and his family.
William Raine (1811) married Hannah Thompson (1810) in September 1840 in Lythe.
They had 6 children that survived infancy:
Richard (my g g grandfather)
Edward
Charles
Thomas
Elizabeth
Henry All born in Lythe.
Any information on Richard's sibling after 1901 would be appreciated as I have tracked them till then.
Also any info on William before his marriage.  He states on all the census that he was born in Gargrave but I have drawn a blank there.  His father, Joseph, was deceased I think at the time of Williams marriage but his occupation had been 'carpet weaver'
Thankyou

Hello
I assumed he was.  Although it does say he was deceased that doesnt always mean he was alive!
Can't find any trace of him on the 1841 census or any trace of a death.  However, a Joseph Raine married a Jane Stockdale in Gargrave in 1814.  This could be William's father marrying for the second time - or perhaps the first!
Would love to know for sure as William is my ggg grandfather and would love more info about his childhood.  I don't think he was born in Gargrave as there is no trace of a birth there but he may of been brought up there.
I also have a copy of his wedding certificate and his and hannah's death certificates.  Their eldest son together, Richard, born May 1841 is my gg grandfather,

Hi Sue

Thanks for your note Hannah Raine nee Thomspons is my gg grandmother through William Thompson her son before marriage which could have been William Raine's but will never be sure.

Hannah's father was George Thompson born 1757 I am not sure but he may have been married twice but Hannah's mother was Mary Addison whom George married on the 4th June1809. His father was John Thompson born 1729 married a Martha.

Hi Ann,
Thanks for that!  I have researched the Raine family quite extensively and have lots of information.
I knew that Hannah had had four sons before her marriage to William Raine, William, Henry, John and Joseph.  I thought her parents were George and Mary Addison too, however the wedding certificate says her father was John.
In 1841 they are living with Ann Thompson (who I suspect is Hannah's mother) a widow and Moses Thompson, Hannah's brother and witness at her wedding.
Moses was also the informant of his mother's death in 1874.  Ann was a widow of Thomas Thompson, a mariner, so the plot thickens! There is a Hannah Thompson's baptism on the IGI from 1810 in Hinderwell (can't remember the exact date, I'm at work!) with just an Ann as her mother, no father mentioned.
My email is:
aidansrest@yahoo.co.uk
contact me on that and I'll send you all the info I have, it's great to be in contact with someone related through Hannah's other children!
