Looking for information my G Grandmother and her family. She was Sarah Francis, born circa 1883, apparently in Chiswick, although this was listed for all her siblings, despite her having told my Grandfather that she was born in Wateringbury, Kent.
Her parents were William Francis and Martha Cheeseman, on the 1881 census he is listed as a labourer, living next door to his parents (and siblings), they are listed as general dealer and hawker respectively.
Would love to be able to find out more information about her as she is something of an enigma to me
She is the eldery woman seated at the middle front of the picture.

Hi SallyW
Welcome to Rootschat
What a lovely wedding photograph
I'm sure Rootschatters will try and help you find out more about your great grandmother, Sarah. Is there anything in particular that you are hoping to find? Do you have her on the 1891 and 1901 census? What about her wedding?
Best wishes
Casalguidi

Hi Casalguidi,
Thank your for your kind comments. The photo was taken at my Great Uncle's wedding in 1947. It was sent to me by his daughter who I recently discovered on GenesReunited. Its nice for me too as my beloved Grandparents are in it, unfortunately they are no longer with us.
My G Grandparents were married on the 9th September 1905 in Brentford. Their details as recorded on the marriage certificate are: Charles Salisbury 22 years old Labourer Address - 1 Baileys Row, Brentford Father - Henry Salisbury (deceased) Labourer Sarah Francis 21 years old Garden Woman Address - 4 Mount Pleasant, Brentford Father - William Frances (deceased) Labourer
I have managed to trace her family back using this information and found them recorded on both the 1891 and 1881 census at William Street, Chiswick, theres seem to be a lot of the family living next door to each other at these times. I am wondering if this was their winter address as Sarah told my Grandad that they spent their summers in Kent fruit and hop picking and I have seen photos of this.
I don't think Charles had any Romany connections but I can't find anything out about him at all and have been unsuccessful tracing him back, any help on that front would be greatly received also.
Best wishes, Sally

Hi Sally,
Lots of settled travellers lived in William Street including my own, most would pack up and go hop picking in Kent, every year, William Street, was a bit like Wardley Street in Garrett Lane Wandsworth, having families in both, I know they carried out their "trades" from these Streets, and I can still recall that most had horse and carts right into the 1950's.
The wives and daughters would sell their flowers from baskets some local some up in the city.
William Street has now been pulled down and so has all but a few houses in Wardley Street.
My family are Hearn/Hearne
Good luck in your search Pat

Hi Pat
Many thanks for your posting. That had really cleared things up for me. No other branches of the tree seem to have any recollection or information passed on about the romany connection so its nice to be able to have some kind of evidence.
Hopefully we can proceed now and find out about the family before it settled, although i think this is going to be a difficult task.
Kind regards and good luck with your searching too.
Best wishes, Sally
