Hope SKS can help me. I am looking for a baptism/birth of Samuel Herbert Hyde b 1845 [or there abouts] in 'County Wicklow. I know he is the son o9f Samuel Herbert Hyde but that is about all. He turns up on the 1871 census in London and I have him untill his death in 1915 in Paddington, London. I would love to know where he was born and his mothers name, well any other info that can be found.
I know it is a big ask but can anyone help me find him?
Many thanks in advance
Kay

Hello Kay,
What denomination was Samuel Herbert Hyde? Was he a member of the Catholic faith, the Established Church (Anglicans or Church of Ireland), a Methodist or a Presbyterian?
You'll have to rely on Church records as civil registration in Ireland was not introduced until 1864. Non Catholic marriages were registered from 1845 onwards. When registration for BDMS started in 1864 some people didn't bother with the registration for a few years after that date. Keep your fingers crossed that church records still exist.

I have no idea which domonination he was born, only that he married in Chuch of England. I realised it was a lost cause when i posted the message, just hoped that SKS might come across him, or that he might be in someone els's tree.
Many thanks for your reply

Hello Kay,
It's a shot in the dark but might be worth a bit more research ... there were three families named Herbert in Wicklow at the time of Griffith's Valuation of the county in 1852-3.
John Herbert, Ballylusk, Rathnew Sydney Herbert, Killarney, Bray Hon. Sydney Herbert, Kilbride, Bray
There were no families named Hyde listed in the Wicklow valuation but there were a few in Dublin in 1848-51
William Hyde, Richmond Place, St. Georges John Hyde, Malpas Street, St. Nicholas Without John Hyde, Malpas Street, St. Nicholas Without John Hyde, Bonny's Lane, St. Nicholas Without
The greatest number of families named Hyde were listed in Cork and Cork city ... the number totalled 108. The numbers dropped to 32 in Armagh, 14 in Tyrone and 12 in Waterford. Other counties had single numbers of families.
