William REEDMAN last seen in Wavendon
« on: Friday 28 July 06 14:38 BST (UK) »

Hi,

I am trying to find out what happened to William Reedman b.1876 in 'Denaby Main, Yorks' (this could be a mistake).

He lived in Nassington, Northants, Peterborough and was recorded on the 1901 census as living in Wavendon, Bucks and working as a Grocer.

I would love to know what happened to him after this. Did he ever marry or have children?

I hope someone out there can help solve this mystery!

Alisa

Moderator Comment: William Reedman has left 'traces' in three counties. If anybody can help, then please check out the thread on the other county boards as well, to avoid duplication of efforts. Thanks Smiley

Re: possible marriage.  Have you checked the GRO index from 1901 for his marriage?

You can now search the full GRO index yourself free of charge at
http://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx  Choose “Complete BMD Index Ranges & Images 1837-1983
The partial index (freebmd) can also be searched on the same website or at http://freebmd.rootsweb.com

Copy certificates can be obtained online at www.gro.gov.uk

Thanks for the tips.

I have checked the marriage index and found a possible match for William in 1908. It is not clear who he married - how can i find out? The index gives a list of others on the same page, but how do I know which is his wife?   Huh

Hi Alisa,

Usually, you'll find 4 people (2 brides 2 grooms) on a same page. In this case, it seems William was misindexed (you'll see the others didn't marry in Huntingdon). Looking at the actual GRO index image, it appears that the reference for his marriage should be 3b 603 instead of 3b 803.
If you now enter this reference into the search engine:
Marriage September quarter 1908 3b 603, only one other person pops up: Annie Green.

Just to check whether this is likely to be right, I have searched the birth indexes from late 1911 on, (when the mother's maiden name is given on the index) for a Reedman child with mother's maiden name Green. I was very lucky - have found one in the very first quarter I looked up:
September quarter 1911: George H Reedman - mother's maiden name Green - Huntingdon 3b 442
