Your quite right there Joe
My line went down in the middle of transcribing and when I got back, I overlooked the next entry
As It's still up and downy, is it poss for you to check up on this family on the 1851 and 61, please - if John disappears at some point, he's a strong possible.
We've been searching for him since last July
Thanks

I've found John's bpt on SP - now it wasn't there last July. I've checked my original searches
This looks a strong possibility - Well done Joe

Wow - This is a very good record for 1835:
Findlay was a Sawyer. They were living in Telford Street. He was born 30 April and baptised 1st may by the Rev Dr Ros. Witnesses Donald McDonald and Donald McLennan.
However, immediately above this entry is one for a John Kennedy McLennan. Parents Duncan McLennan and Isabella McIntyre. Fairfield Lane. Father was a tailor. Born 20 March 1835, bpt. 1st May by Rev Dr Rose. Witnesses John Kennedy and Findlay Fraser.
Hmmm- ya pays yer money and takes yer pick

Memo to self - read the thread through again
Worth investigating though

The 1837 Kiltarlity one has them living at Balchraggan/Balchreggan, Kiltalrilty. No father's occupation but as I said last year, it's very fertile farming country around there.

Stranger and stranger
John McLennan b. 7 May 1841, bpt. 20 May 1841 Balachraggan, Kiltarlity. parents Murdoch McLennan and Margaret MacDonald.
Now did the clerk get the father's name wrong and the first John died or were there two Margaret McDonalds
Both are possible.
A bit more census work, I think. The 1841 was in June.

Hi Gadget,
I have just looked at the three images you have emailed me. I still think the 1837, Kiltarlity John
looks the most promising.

Hi again Red
I've just been having a lovely time looking at OS maps and wondering around the Kiltarlity area looking for a farm. I like maps
The nearest area that I can find is Craggach - mid, wester, East, etc. This is to the East of Moniack.

Hi Gadget,
in answer to your earlier post, I think there must be two Margaret MacDonalds. I have come
across Murdoch before. I think some of his decendents moved to Liverpool too. lol.

Hi Red
They were still there in 1841. Maybe John and Murdoch were brothers
I've been having another look at the 1841. it really ius needles and haystacks. The only John that I can find with a father John who was a farmer, is living in Kilmuir Easter on The Black Isle. That's the peninsular of land north of Inverness but actually in Ross and Cromarty.
I'll give you the details just in case:
73 ED 3 Page 11 Muckernich, Kilmuir Easter, Ross and Cromarty
John b.c. 1796, Farmer Helen b.c. 1793 May b.c. 1824 Helen b.c. 1826 Isabella b.c. 1829 Jane b.c. 1831 Kenneth b.c. 1836 Kohn b.c. 1838
I'll keep looking but

This is now puzzling me greatly
I've been checking up the births for John and Margaret in Kiltarlity. This is what I get:
Murdoch - b. 12 July 1836 bpt 14 July 1836 John - 29 August 1837 bpt 31 August 1837 Donald - 5 March 1849 bpt 20 March 1849
There seems a very big gap between John and Donald. Did they go away, where they missed off the census, were they mistranscribed. I've checked about 3 or 4 different census sources though and can't find them yet.
