I Have just the place for you Su Look in the historical directories of your choice, the history pages are fascinating to read.Especially when you read about the place that you now live in being described in the 1900 as a watering place which attracts many well to do people (Rich ones) and Bathing in the sea has become popular in recent times and attracts people from all over Cheshire. Have look it makes great reading and it free,If you want to print a page out, but the print is very small, as it is in some books.Just enlarge it once and use the save on the page. try and catch it when it pop's up

Hi Su,
There's a transcription of a Counterpart Lease on my website from 1844 for one of my ancestors - it might give you some idea of the relationship of tenant farmers to their landlords. It gives information on how much land they could raise crops on etc etc etc.
Otherwise there is a good book by Charles F Foster (there are a number actually, but just been browsing this one) which gives some interesting information on farming at the earlier end of your date range, “Cheshire Cheese and Farming in the North West in the 17th & 18th Centuries” - if you didn't want to buy it maybe your local library could order it for you, the ISBN is 0951838210.

Su We spend so much time in the past, i think we leave a bit of us behind on every visit. A brain bit, In 1999 i wrote a cheque out,it was sent back with a note that said ,We are sorry but the six month time limit for cashing the cheque has now past. Couldnt understand it i had only sent it a few days before. Then i found a little clue on the little line where you put the date. I had sent the cheque in November 1899
