This link doesn't appear to work - are there any other lists of Essex surnames? I am looking for the CARDER family from Orsett and Horndon on the Hill.

Hi Hev,

You're right, the link has stopped working and I've no idea why. I was going to suggest trying the Rootschat 'Surnames Interests' database, but I see you've done that already.

Anyway, I've had a look and found another link for the Essex Surnames List. I've edited my original post accordingly. The site lists someone researching Carders from the area you're interested in.

The Essex Society for Family History has a list of surnames in the UK being researched by their members. Unfortunately no-one there is researching Carders in Essex.

The Essex surnames list link is working now, I have just looked and there are three people researching Carder on there on of whom is looking in the Horndon on the hill area.

Many thanks for the link.  I've found and contacted someone researching the WISBEY family in Elmdon/Arkesden/Clavering who I believe will turn out to have connections with my own family.  They appear to be in Australia, and I know they aren't in my direct line, so hopefully they'll get back to meand we'll both learn something new  Smiley

I've added my Wisbeys too, so it might throw up some more new leads
