Hello
I am researching Richard Woolhouse born about 1811,at Eton, parents: Avice and Richard (a 'servant' ) His first wife: Diana Locock, second wife Ann White. I'd be interested to hear from anyone connected to these people . Children: Henry,(1835) Avice,(1838) Ann, Sarah,(1862) Edward,(1847) Richard, (1845)James,(1859) John.(1855)
I had assumed this man to be a son to Francis and Phoebe Woolhouse. Not so it appears. Is anyone able to show the connection with these families ? as they are sure to be all related.

Hello, thanks for looking , they are connected.
One thing that puzzles though, I have been looking for a Francis Woolhouse ( born 1776, Beaconsfield ) in the 1851 census, and can't find him , but have located him through a search on Family History Online, in the 1851 Berkshire Census, age 75, New Windsor, retired sawyer. Why can't I find this info on the National Archives search of the 1851 census ?? strange

I can't remember if we have been through this before, I was certainly aware that your Woolhouses might be connected to my wife's family.
Mary Woolhouse married George Gray at Upton cum Chalvey 25 April 1831. His family is as follows:
Jonathan Gray born c 1760 Upton cum Chalvey married 29 Aug 1787in Eton Sarah Anne Godman (bapt 24 Mar 1764 Upton cum Chalvey daughter of William Godman (born 1734 son of John Godman born c 1692 Langley Marish and Rose ____ born 1696 Langley Marish )and Sarah Bassford (born Burton Latimer 1733). They were married in 29 Apr 1754). Their children were:
John Gray bapt 30 Mar 1788 Upton cum Chalvey George Gray bapt 10 May 1790 Upton cum Chalvey married 25 Apr 1831by banns in Upton cum Chalvey to Mary Woolhouse (bapt 23 Jul 1809 daughter of Francis and Pheobe Woolhouse) Sophia Gray bapt 17 Oct 1791 Upton cum Chalvey married William Gilder (born c 1792) in Eton 3 Oct 1808. Sophia died in Eton Q1 1865. William was still living in 1861. William Gray bapt 29 Mar 1795 & 26 Oct 1795 Upton cum Chalvey Elizabeth Gray bapt 29 Mar 1795 & 26 Oct 1795 Upton cum Chalvey Anne Gray bapt 17 Feb 1798 Upton cum Chalvey Thomas Gray bapt 6 Nov 1803 Upton cum Chalvey married Amelia Pearce 8 Apr 1833 Upton cum Chalvey Joseph Gray bapt 6 Nov 1803 Upton cum Chalvey married Ann Smith 8 May 1827 Upton cum Chalvey
William's daughter Mary Anne Gray married Henry Johnson who is also descended from a Woolhouse line residing at that time in Thame Oxfordshire but probably related to the Windsor Woolhouses.

Hello and thanks for the info, two of the names you have given may be of further relevance to my Richard Woolhouse, (b. 1811 Eton ) , Ann Gray : there was an Ann Gray who was a witness to his marriage at Langley Marish in 1843 . There was a Sophia Kirtland, informant on his death certificate in 1863, could this be Sophia Gray ?
I believe his father may be Richard Woolhouse b. 1783 in Beaconsfield, brother to Francis Woolhouse b.1776 ( married Phoebe Rankley 1799 )
There is a Richard Woolhouse who died 1817 at Eton aged 34 this matches the 1783 birth date. I have been unable to find a record of his marriage to 'Avice' I would be really grateful to anyone who can find this marriage for me! His daughter is Avice, born 1810 Eton, Richard b.1811 at Eton , and Ann, born 1817 Eton. There are no more births to this marriage after 1817 which leads me to believe this is the same Richard ( d.1817 ) Who was the mysterious Avice ? It's not an overly common name , there aren't many in Bucks at this time frame .
All of the Buckinghamshire and Berkshire Woolhouses are connected, Richard ( b. 1811 at Eton ) moved to Bray ( Moneyrow Green ) about the late 1850's, his son Edward was born in Windsor abt. 1849 ( not been able to find his birth record yet ) too many records , New Windsor, Old Windsor, Windsor Castle , where to start!!
Does anyone know who Aris Woolhouse was ?? born 1837 and recorded at Windsor Castle 1850 no mention what the record was ( marriage unlikely at 13, death ? ) (Nothing in the G.R.O. ) Who were his parents? again, a very unusual name, normally it appears , female.
I am also interested to find a link between the Woolhouse family I am tracing and Paul Woolhouse who would have been born about 1700 -1710 who was college butcher at Eton 1740's , he has a son Richard, ( married Mary 1758 )also college butcher , Eton. Richard died 1775.
Another puzzle, what became of Richard Woolhouse born to Francis and Phoebe at Upton Cum Chalvey 1811 ?

It is possible that Anne Gray was your witness to Richard's marriage. There is another Anne Gray in my tree but she would only have been 11 or 12 at the time of the marriage. While this is another possibility it seems unlikely.
I think you can rule out Sophia as she was still calling herself Gilder when she died in 1865.
My other Woolhouse line were in Egham (just over the border in Surrey) and Iver in the latter half of the 18th century but they were nearly all females. The only male who I haven't "hatched, matched and despatched" is a Thomas who was born in 1783 in Thame but is likely to have moved to the Windsor area.
