1891 census look up for herefordshire please

would anyone be kind enough to look up the name
"gale " in the 1891 census of hereford please
the only names i hae are ernest b ? married to elizabeth
ernest had a possible brother of edward
i know it not a lot to go on but if anyone can help i would be grateful

Is this an adult who recently married Elizabeth prior to the 181 census?

Or


Is this a child born in the early part of 1890 - 1891 possible in time for the census?

If an aduly do you have any children born to this couple? 

It may help narrow them down in later census then they can be traced forward, hopefully.

the only children i have are my grandfatheredward walter  b 1906 hereford married in bath somerset i have his wedding cert but no birth cert , birth date given by relative
brother to edward william john b c 1912 ? hereford? died bath somerset 2004 and sister elizabeth susan gale b c 1910? again unsure , she married james john selway in bath , im presuming she  was named after her mother
that is all i have to go on

thanks for reply
cant find  edward walter b 1906 hereford or elizabeth susan b c 1910 or william john b c 1912 as they were not born at time of 1901 census
unfortunatley ernest gale their father and edward possible brother to ernest , i dont know their dates of birth or place of birth ,
i have just been given info that suggests that the family name was "heath" originally if this helps
i know that the family name changed around the time of the war to stop the men being conscripted , but whne this was done im not sure as on edward walter gales(1906 hereford) marriage cert his father ernest and himself were named as "gale"
this is why i dont know where to start searching
i cant even apply for a birth certificate for edward as im not 100% sure its hereford im looking for
i did contact hereford registry office months ago and a kind lady did a quick search for me for free but could not come up with edward walters name??
i am well and truly stuck

to clarify all i have in my tree is as follows
ernest gale (or "heath" poss) b ? died by 1936
brother edward b ? had daughter susan
possibly more siblings dont know
ernest gale had 3 children
elizabeth susan gale b c 1910 poss hereford
edward walter gale b 1906 definate hereford married gladys evelyn clark in 1936
edward walter died 1936 in bath somerset (avon)
and  william, john b c 1912 ? hereford died 2004 bath somerset married ethel brown in 1936 in bath

just been trawling through internet and had a thought.
bin told the family name was heath originally and supposidly edward walter b 1906 was named "heath" the name was later changed to gale
the name change is said to hae come about aroiund the time of the first world war 1914 to 1918
hso going by that ernest his father would have been born "ernest heath "
i came across an ernest heath on free bmd born sept quarter 1884 hereford
could anyone do a quick look up on the 1891 census and see if any of the names tie in please ?
sorry to be a pain but as i said before i dont know where to go with this one at all

In 1891 there was a family in St Weonards,

Edwin HEATH no birthplace given aged 36
Caroline no birthplace given aged 33,
Thomas aged 4
Emma aged 3
and Ernest aged 7

I did come across this one family with an Ernest Gale but that would have made him only gone just about 16 when Edward Walter Gale was born in 1909.



1891  census shows this family to be living in Orleton, Herefordshire

Harley Gale 23  Head Occ Shepherd  bn Orleton

Harriet Gale 24 Wife Kingsland

Ernest Gale 1 Son Orleton

Harriet 1 month Daughter Orleton

Sarah Gale 73 Mother Orleton



and here in the 1901 census

living on Church Lane, Orleton




Harley Gale 33

Harriet Gale 34

Ernest Gale 11

Anne Gale 10 ( could be harriet)

James Gale 3


I can't see another Ernest regardless of spelling in the 1891 onwards census

is there anyway i could find out who the parents were of edward walter gale by only knowing that his father was called ernest and his mother elizabeth? and edwards birth is hereford?
its so little to go on
and where would i go to ask for a cert

I am assuming you have the name Ernest Gale as father of the groom on the marriage certificate of your grandfather Edward Walter Gale. Does it give an occupation, and who are the witnesses on the certificate ?

Where do you have the information that your grandfather was born in Hereford from ?

Is it possibly Herefordshire rather than Hereford ?
or even Hertford

Herefordshire has 6 register offices, so he could have been regsitered at any of those.

Thinking of other things - when did he die, did he serve in the Second World War where some details should be on his Service record.

What age is on his marriage certificate ?

hello ebn thank you for your replies and efforts
the date of birth i obtained from  the wedding certificate for edward walter
marriage date was 26th dec 1936 he was aged 30 years old  occupation general labourer fathers name ernest gale deceased occ general labourer witnesses were e,m, davies and a g davies which i know to be sister and brother in law to the bride  as ive researched the other side
the only other clues i have been given and i cant verify this is that the family around ernest's time were gypsey travellers selling dried flowers from hereford to somerset to devon and london sorry about this but the person i am getting this off has selective memories
as far as ive bben told the reason the name was changed from heath to gale is to avoid the men being signed up fro war !!
i do know that edward walter gale worked as a carpenter for the army at copenacre corsham during the 2nd world war

found this one on the 1901 Welsh Census.  They are living 12 Gray Street, Canton, Glamorgan


Walter Gale 40 bn Southampton Occ Hawker/Pedlar

Alice 48 bn Leeds

Ernest 14 bn Cheltenham


I might just add that they were had neighbours on either side that were Pedlars/Hawker and Gypsys.

Just looking to see if they can be sen in the 1891 census somewhere.

But if they were travellers maybe they weren't on

whoooo winston i just wonder if that may be them?? wouldnt it be great
when you go onto the latter day saints site for the 1881 census , is there  something you can type in to get strays , gypseys and travellers etc or is it just pot luck if theyve managed to  get these familes on the census due to travelling?
