Does any body know anything about Harriet and Walter Slee who moved from Barry South Wales to Mannville Alberta somewhere in the early 20th century. The only reason that I know they moved is a google search that produced a query from one of their descendants. Unfortunatly this was about 5 years ago and I cannot make contact now. I cannot find the Slees in the 1911 census.
Mannville when they moved must have been real frontier land and as inexperienced farmers they must have moved on to BC quite fast.
Anybody heard of the Slees?

Hi Thelma
Thanks for the reply.
My Walter Slee would have been 60 in 1929 but his son Walter George was born in 1888 so it could be him. I'll try and find his marriage. My connection is actually through Walter's wife Harriet nee Hicks
I had thought they left Wales earlier but who knows. As I said all this info comes from reading somebody else's posting s on a family search site. I'll fid it again and send you the info.
Where have you seen the book on Mannville? I found Walter on one site about landholdings there but am stuck on where to go now.
Although I live in Vancouver I have done virtually no Canadain research as I had throught we were the first generstion here. That is why this family sparked my interest.
Many thanks
JAne

Hi there
the book is in the catalogue of my public library
http://www.calgarypubliclibrary.com/
it is a reference only book so cannot be signed out or loaned to another library unfortunately.
As you live in Vancouver if you go the Archives (address should be on the site I listed in the first email) in person you can look at the actual death registration (on microfilm) and that should list the deceased person's birth date, birth place and names of parents, etc.
That should help figure out if there is a connection to your family

I found the marriage of the younger Walter Slee to Ethel S K Morgan in Cardiff in 1911!!
Alos on the immigration records is one of his cousins Arthur Slee who came via Vancouver.
Many thanks this a major step onwards

As this is not a common surname, I will throw in the only thing I know, which is this: there was a woman named SLEE who attended and graduated from the University of Western Ontario around 1970 or so. She married and they moved to Ottawa, I think, and had children.
