There's a Joseph Philpotts in Glos at RG10/2603 folio 11 pg 13, but working back he looks to have been married to a Caroline.
There are these 2 death registrations Joseph Philpotts Leominster 3Q 1863 vol 6a pg 352 Anne Philpotts Leominster 3Q 1863 vol 6a pg 353
Did any of your Philpotts wander over the border into Monmouthshire? I have a large family of them in Caerwent from late 18th century some of whom move into Gloucestershire second half of the nineteenth century.
Is this their marriage ? Joseph Philpotts married Ann Philpotts Hereford Oct 1830
and on the 1881 census there is Thomas Philpotts , manager of a coffee tavern in Leominster with Ann his wife and a family including 8 year old Joseph - is this a son ?
Osprey - thanks for the information you have found. I am not aware of them wandering over the border but if anything comes up, I will let you know
EBN - thanks for the marriage date, really helpful as I didn't have it. I am assuming Thomas on the 1881 may be Joseph's son and therefore 8 year old Jospeh his grandson.
