Smiley You are anything but lazy...you are terrific.... We once had no help at all in B.C. and all of a sudden we have several people doing lookups, including you...and you have really hit the ground running as far as helping people on rootschat..
We are all so lucky to have the help on the board from the beautiful west coast...

sigh...still tons of snow sitting...Ontario has really been hit hard as well...

Maybe you should come to Canada now, Lydart!  Roll Eyes
Grin J.J.

oops never said anything about the query...*AHEM*

So, William never came until around 1921...   Grin...wonder who all those census Williams were then? One had to be a close cousin....

The information on the death certificate was typed on the form but the field for the years in Canada was filled in with pencil.  I wonder now if it is reliable.  Maybe the registrar just filled it in later??  I'll try and look up his son, W.E. Stubbs, as there is a death for a William Edward in Duncan I think.  Unfortunately, you can never, ever find a free internet station at the library so if I don't have a list of the lookups before I get there, I can't do a subsequent search while still at the library.  Very annoying!  But perhaps the son's birth date and place will help place William Sr.  I should be able to get back there in the next few days.

Again J.J, thank you for the compliments but I really am lazy.  I do have the odd burst of activity but it wouldn't take a CSI to figure out that the shape of my bottom is an exact fit for the dint in my sofa cushions!!

Lynwen

ps.  come to BC, the sun came out today and the crocuses and daffodils are in bloom!

Hi.

I'm not ignoring you and all the stuff you've found for me ... I've just had a busy week, which looks like becoming a busy fortnight, and this sort of stuff needs a few spare hours to consider and evaluate.

MANY thanks ... I'll be back !

PS ... Think I'd quite like to be in BC right now !  Its just the air-fare ... and the cost of hotels ... and internal travel ....  better buy another lottery ticket !

I'm in a quandary here.

I checked again for the family of the George Stubbs who emigrated to Canada.  He went in 1888 with his brother John James.

Their brother William was born c 1865 so can't be the William you've found, although it is possible/probable the brother William also went to Canada and is probably be the one who died in Namaimo in 1939, but he can't be the one whose attestation papers you've found, because of his birth date.

Brother John James died 1921 in Vancouver.

I'm getting myself muddled here ... am I clear to you there ?!

I joined the thread rather late but I think the William listed in the Attestation papers is believed to be the son of the William who died in Nanaimo in 1939.

So the theory is....George's brother William also emigrated to Canada along with his son William Edward (born 1888 in Lancs).  William Sr dies in Nanaimo in 1939, his son serves in WWI and possibly just possibly dies in Duncan, BC in 1964.

I'll have to check the death registration for the last bit to confirm.

Ahhh ... now that IS possible !    I have no details of William Snr. leaving for Canada, or of his marriage, or of his children including a Wm. Jnr.  ... over to you for those details !

OK, OK !   It's been a long day and I'm thinking about my bed soon !

Can I check back in the morning ?   They've been a long time dead, so a few more hours won't make any difference !

I'm very grateful for all your searches.  It's starting to all fit together ...
