Oh, yeah, but wait....then there was this one in 1901...living in Yale caribou where John James was... Stubbs William E. Lodger / single / Feb 2 1867 but the image says 1965!!!!! or 1867?? / England / age 34...imm. 1897 and he is a musician...and if I recall wasn't John James a music teacher? So this might also be the right fellow as well... Do you have any birth certs yet? That would cinch the right fellow you are looking for...

adding John James Stubbs & family in 1911 to the update... Stubbs Jas Jno Jan 1863 Stubbs Jessie Apr 1866 Stubbs Agne Oct 1891 Stubbs Herbert Oct 1892 Stubbs Mona Mar 1894 Stubbs Doris Sep 1896 Stubbs Zoe Sep 898 Stubbs Jessie Apr 1900 Stubbs Nellie Jun 1902 Stubbs Cecil Aug 1910

re: the maps for Land grants...just refer to the site that Janice gave you and click on the maps bar...It only shows you the area the land was located but not the towns etc. like a normal map...

You are anything but lazy...you are terrific.... We once had no help at all in B.C. and all of a sudden we have several people doing lookups, including you...and you have really hit the ground running as far as helping people on rootschat.. We are all so lucky to have the help on the board from the beautiful west coast...
sigh...still tons of snow sitting...Ontario has really been hit hard as well...
Maybe you should come to Canada now, Lydart! J.J.
oops never said anything about the query...*AHEM*
So, William never came until around 1921... ...wonder who all those census Williams were then? One had to be a close cousin....

Hi.
I'm not ignoring you and all the stuff you've found for me ... I've just had a busy week, which looks like becoming a busy fortnight, and this sort of stuff needs a few spare hours to consider and evaluate.
MANY thanks ... I'll be back !
PS ... Think I'd quite like to be in BC right now ! Its just the air-fare ... and the cost of hotels ... and internal travel .... better buy another lottery ticket !

I'm in a quandary here.
I checked again for the family of the George Stubbs who emigrated to Canada. He went in 1888 with his brother John James.
Their brother William was born c 1865 so can't be the William you've found, although it is possible/probable the brother William also went to Canada and is probably be the one who died in Namaimo in 1939, but he can't be the one whose attestation papers you've found, because of his birth date.
Brother John James died 1921 in Vancouver.
I'm getting myself muddled here ... am I clear to you there ?!

OK, OK ! It's been a long day and I'm thinking about my bed soon !
Can I check back in the morning ? They've been a long time dead, so a few more hours won't make any difference !
I'm very grateful for all your searches. It's starting to all fit together ...
