« on: Friday 04 August 06 12:04 UTC (UK) »

I am looking for information on James Fraser from Inverness - He married Sarah Scott on 6 nov 1810 and they had 6 children - Isabella,John,Catherine,Margaret,Donald,James. I would really like to find any records of him - birth/death etc. Any ideas would be gratefully received?

Hello Wardmob,  i am not sure which Frasers you are after but i have a Margaret Fraser of Kilarlity  who married a Alexander Munro and had a child Simon in 1876,  Margaret Fraser was a domestic servant and maried in 1874...she was the daughter of Simon Fraser  (deceased)  and Mary Frazer Fraser...

Hi Wardmob

Just some ideas:

A quick search on Scotlands People shows the death of a Sarah Fraser, other name Scott, born 1790 who died in Urquhart in 1857. A James Fraser also with a birth year of 1790, died in Urquhart in 1864.

From IGI, the submitted multiple entries for their children show birthplaces for some of the entries of Urquhart.

I would start by looking at the death cert of the above Sarah and verifying that she was married to a James Fraser. If you know his occupation this will normally also show on her death cert. If that is confirmed, and husband is showing as living rather than deceased, I would then look at the death cert for the James Fraser showing in 1864. If this is the correct James, his death cert will confirm his parents' names (you could of course jump straight to this search!). This will let you search IGI by birth year/parents.

If it is your James, you will also be able to verify birth place from the 1851 and 1861 censuses which include this information.

Regards.
